Why are the state capitals of US states often tiny and irrelevant shitholes like Sacramento and Albany? Here in Australia the largest and most major city in every state is the capital of that state, why is this not so in America?
That's the point, so that the largest city of a State doesn't hog up all the relevance. It also served as a way to try to spread development in the State away from the hub. In several states the capital also used to be the largest city before demographic shifts caused otherwise.
Why is the national capital of Australia a tiny and irrelevant shit-hole?

Because we Sydney master race had to compromise with the lelbourne cucks.

This was the case in Nebraska and Louisiana iirc. I'm willing to bet maybe Pennsylvania and New York both did this too.

Where did this happen? Florida? Alaska?
Also some capitals like Jefferson City in Missouri were founded just due to their centrality, kinda like Canberra.

Happened in Florida and Connecticut, IIRC

California, for one
Georgia, Ohio, Colorado, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Minnesota, Idaho, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Indiana, Rhode Island, Arizona, Hawaii and Arkansas have the largest city as their capital. Texas and California have much larger cities than their capitals, but the capitals are still big enough for major league sports franchises. Nevada, Washington, Oregon, and Lousiana have capitals reasonably close to the largest city in their respective states. Other states have no real large cities so it's hard to say their capital is a cowtown compared to the rest of the "cities" in the state. Illinois has the worst capital, but at least it is centrally located. Too bad 90% of its population resides in the Chicagoland area.

They were made capitals a long time ago. A centrally located capital, easily accessible to the rest of the state, is ideal.
I had a retarded US history teacher from Florida who was convinced that the capital of Massachusetts was Springfield, and got visibly angry when we kept telling him it was Boston. Thing is, we were in a Massachusetts high school.
Florida. Not even once.

Canberra. GTFO.
Also there is good reason to separate power centers, dumbass.

So American states don't end up like Europe where one city can dominate an entire country/province
