Why wasn't the rest of the word embraced this superior means of transportation?
Bikes are dank, yes.
But the nirvana is achieved once you walk long distances

You can't carry tree kids + groceries while walking though.
Because North American cities are too spread out to bike from place to place.

The non meme answer is corporations too invested on older technologies to allow for true innovation. The real alternative to motor vehicles is something like pictured, it allows you to pedal as a bycicle while offering better protection in case of an accident or from the weather. It also has an electric motor which allows you to rest or go at faster speeds in comfort.
