They are the Latin-speaking pre-Roman population of the Balkans which lived alongside their Albanian brethren in modern-day east Serbia and north Bulgaria as well as parts of the Romanian Carpathians. By the 13th centuries they were definitely living in scattered urban communities throughout Wallachia which paid tribute to the Cumans and also started migrating into Transylvania, reaching Slovakia a century later and eventually even Moravia. They also had a hand in establishing the Second Bulgarian Empire iirc.
