Well I mostly travel alone or with people my age. So plenty of drinking and meeting new people in hostels. As well as trying to meet locals to get interesting secret locations etc.

I lived in shanghai for 6 months and saw some interesting shit there. Also hiked around shikoku in japan for 2 months. If you're with tourguides for more than 5% of your trip you're doing it wrong.

Stay far away from hostels, guided tours, package deals, etc.. Other foreigners that you meet abroad, especially in hostels, are almost always disgusting, degenerate scum. Any sort of group activity where you're put with strangers will also be full of scum. And finally, an on-rails paid activity is for autistic children and couch potatoes.

Travel alone or with a couple of compatriot friends. Make friends with locals, not other travellers, and don't rely on paid services; personal relationships yield the best opportunities for good experiences.
