What was your family's contribution to your country's war effort during World War II?
One of my great-grandfathers machined plane parts, and another was in the Navy.
Great Grandfather was in the Royal Artillery fought in France and then was stationed around airfields until the war ended. Another Great Grandfather was a coal miner. Two Granduncles in the royal navy, one died in the Battle of the Barents Sea and the other died in the Battle of Crete, another Granduncle was in the Irish Hussars, don't know much about him. Granny made bombs in a factory.

Soldiers mostly, though one of my grandfathers tried to stop the US military using mutually assured destruction with nuclear weapons as their primary strategy afterwards, instead utilising blockade fronts, diplomacy and support of democracy.
Both grandfathers fought. One in Russia, where he got an iron cross 2nd class and lost a leg from an artillery shell.

Great grandfather led a bunch of Indians during D-day as a major
Lost almost all of them in the first day trying to take a hamlet
That's all I can remember

Great grand father was a part of the Free French Army.
When the war broke out he engaged i' the army as part of the foreign legions and joined the free French army after the surrender.
He actually ended up getting the medal of honor from both France and Tunisia
Not being deported to auschwitz, in which they were only partially successful.
He died in a concentration camp, he wasn't even meant to be killed.
