probably this desu, i bet it started with parents doing it to their kids (like when parents "kiss your boo boo" supposedly making it feel better) and eventually realizing it works on everyone, then it became culturally ingrained and turned into folk remedies some of which work on a chemical level and some which work on a placebo level and so if you dont have access to scientific studies it just seems like magic/its so simple that theres no point in not giving it a try alongside conventional medicine

I'm not Mexican but whenever I think about Mexican folk medicine I always think of eggs for some reason. I don't think I had ever really watched this done to somebody but I have known about it for years, somehow, and I don't remember how or if I was even correct.

I'm glad to see I wasn't just making it up
