What's it like living in an ex-colony country? To live in a culture that's simply derived from a European master? Who's short history is based on being conquered by a nation of superior culture and technology?

What do you even learn in your history class at school? What did your natives even do thousands of years predeceding our dominance over you?
>>
>Who's short history is based on being conquered by a nation of superior culture and technology?

The attitude is more along the line of 'we were literally Britain, we colonized the continent, and somewhere along the way found a new identity' rather than identifying with the natives that were here before hand.

Though there is a lot of white guilt revisionism that refers to the colonization as the 'invasion' but for the most part that hasnt really sunk into the national psyche
>>
>>69292238

>>69292238
Here is like you say but words like "superior" aren't used; also there is a significant effort to show the dignity of native people.

For example, emphasis is put in how Mapuche natives resisted the Spaniards fir hundred of years.

But in the end is like you say, we are culturally Spaniards, but with a distinct identity which each latinamerican country bases in something different, being it it's native history or some other cultural difference.
>>
Every part of my family was living in the british isles until the early 1800s, there is no separate history. New world people didn't generate spontaneously.

Will Africa be the new Europe in a century?

Well you definitely were a colony for a while before that, and we tried to make you a colony again, which triggered your leave, but yeah, you guys were part of the kingdom for a long time.

It's weird because unlike >>69292723 has said, I don't think Brazil is culturally Portuguese, or at least not too much. It's definitely not culturally native or anything either, despite the memes.

Brazil has somehow developed its own identity and culture separate from Portugal, and landed in an almost antithetical stereotypical position: warm happy-go-lucky attitude with non-autistic people.

Maybe it's bias for knowing it better, but I feel like Brazil became more different from Portugal than any Spaniard colony from Spain. Which is weird, because the Portugal/Brazil relationship is a lot better than theirs. Maybe because Brazil and Portugal each managed to stay intact and never had much relevant infighting.

Yeah, under the Portuguese (and eventually Brazil's own) King's crown and language.

At some point we became the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves, but before it it was definitely a colony. How the fuck wouldn't it be, when we had just got there.

>>69294309
I know all you guys got your own culture and identity, but I've always felt that Brazil fell the furthest from the tree, from things like Bossa Nova, to their beach culture to their food and even poetry.

Again, this might either be my bias or the fact that Brazil ended up the largest Latin-speaking country.

Europeans bullied you into submission after things like the Namagumi incident, you had the Shimonoseki Campaign, and ultimately the Boshin war was pretty much a proxy war between France and Britain. >Europeans bullied you into submission after things like the Namagumi incident, you had the Shimonoseki Campaign, and ultimately the Boshin war was pretty much a proxy war between France and Britain
topkek, do you even know that those "wars" were nothing but conflicts between a local daimyo (feudal lord) vs a coalition of western powers and had nothing to do with japan's sovereignty? and even in such a circumstance, westerners got more casualties, while the shogunate could mobilize about 300 those daimyos as well as its own largest standing army if it really wanted. westerners stood no chance against that combined force. japan did know the fact modernization/industrialization was inevitable and reformists just utilized western intervention as an excuse for reform that would ruin interests of lots of conservatives.

>>69294798
black ships were american, and like i said above both americans and europoors weren't capable of subjugating japan anyways.
even a local daimyo could repel the brits, inflicting more casualties, and america was irrelevant at that time compared to britain (at its apex).
>>
We live in a strange place. We used to call ourselves the real china. Now we are beginning to accept the reality that we are ex colony of Japan, influence sphere of America, next to the real china etc

> Who's short history is based on being conquered by a nation of superior culture and technology?
It was a difficult process of admitting that many stuff were GIVEN by Japan not developed by "our guys". But knowing that Japan probably got it else where helps with the coping.

>What do you even learn in your history class at school?
Glorious Chinese civilization and modernization brought to Taiwan by Japanese.
>What did your natives even do thousands of years predeceding our dominance over you?
Before Japan came we were rice and tea farmers. I guess. There were some electricity and railroad made by Chinese but it was insignificant.

From time to time we notice that we are actually living a "western life": western medicine and hospitals, public schools, cloth, go to a job in the factory, watch tv and movies, etc.

But all are not very painful now since lots of cultural conflicts were worked out for generations.

I am used to this life and don't see the need for alternative. I don't even know what the alternative looks like.

Besides we are quite sure we are not the western guys we saw on tv.

I sometimes look at Japanese and Koreans and Chinese and feel safe. If they are okay with the westernization we are okay too.

>To live in a culture that's simply derived from a European master?
You do realize some of us live in countries that had advanced cultures/civilizations already? Every time you eat a tomato or a bar of chocolate you're sharing in Mesoamerican civilization my profoundly ignorant friend. In Mexico our culture is derived from both Amerindian and European sources.

>Who's short history
kek, we can trace our country's history back to mammoth hunters all the way to bronze ages peoples and that's just on the natives.

>What do you even learn in your history class at school? What did your natives even do thousands of years
We have a history as rich as yours, far more complex in fact as we must learn the history of our people in two different continents.

I'm an ethnic Spaniard btw, and I'm very proud to have become an heir to the Aztecs because of my country of birth, the colony that was, New Spain, was the jewel of the Spanish empire, it changed and influenced the world in ways both large and small, it produced the silver that first allowed for global commerce and provided the material means for the world you see today, it originated the cowboy culture that we share with the Americans.

And I don't have to live with the shame of exploitation and genocide because I'm part of the new people that was born of that, a new man, with a calling to own the future.

Good luck handing your country over to peoples with a different culture you medieval relic.
>>
Why does it even matter which countries wer colonized or not?
>we wuz kangs
>this world is ours

Lol, the reason we joined the "we wuz club" was not because of Nasser, or even Iraqis (who supported our sphere of influence in the ME at the time and Nasser hated you), but because after the Suez Crisis the yanks and the Soviets condemned us along with France for asserting our own interests in the region (ironic? Yes).

We could have absolutely flattened you and the entire middle East if we'd wanted to, even back in 1955, and we probably still could. We got muscled out by countries the size of continents.
>>
>>69298554

Well, in all fairness, the Chinese could simply invade Taiwan at any moment and completely overwhelm them. By the time we launched a full campaign to liberate Taiwan it would already be a fait accompli and the Chinese have attrition in their favor. Its just easier to accommodate China in exchange for them not invading Taiwan. Both sides exercise restraint and war is avoided. Being a small, dependent nation, you probably dont realize that with great power come great responsibility.

I haven't seen a single butthurt pooinloo poster so far desu. This thread is full of latino's tho.

I can understand why they'd mad desu. Their sub-continent was ahead of Europe of millenia before Britains took over. Not to mention we did shit the place up tbph.

But I really don't get why people are so mad over history.

I meant most of Europe barring the Meds. They had one of the few cradles of civilization and other stuff like the ME but they stagnated from religion and other sorts of things.

Mate we're all USA's colonies now. Politically, economically and most importantly, culturally.

I feel like my ancestors made the right call moving away from you bloodthirsty, sister-fucking, king-worshipping faggots.

We have the same quality of life your parents had, but with no wars and a lot more sex.

How does it feel to know that no matter how happy you are right now, my sons will be happier than you?

I never said they were ahead of all of Europe but they did civilize themselves before we did and that's a fact m8. India, China and the ME were ahead of Europe for a long time before our colonization.

Don't be a dumb Amerishart.

What's it like living in an ex-colony country? To live in a culture that's simply derived from a Germanic master? Who's short history is based on being conquered by a nation of superior culture and technology?

What do you even learn in your history class at school? What did your natives even do thousands of years predeceding our dominance over you?

Australia is far better than what we derive from, generally people just identify with multiple countries' history and cultures. But even then, it's not important to anyone's day-to-day life, people tend to look to the future. Only those that are insecure and stagnant in what they do and who they are, constantly parade it or things associated with it and insert it into topics and conversation. It's what you do in your life that is far more relevant to defining you, not where your from or the assumed label(s) from birth. Those that emphasise and stagnate in their obsession of it are insecure, regardless of the country. Living vicariously through the past, rather than looking to the future and making something of yourself in the present. Many Australians actually do this, it is more common in younger countries. It's a slight and usually uncommon thing but you might find some people irrationally sensitive to questioning of their identity and countries in general. I have noticed it in some Aussies on the internet, never in real life though.

You only need to look at your history (especially recent history) and the current state of your nation to know that you are wrong. Of course, present-day it is more American influence than anything else but not solely.

>Politically, economically and most importantly, culturally.
Also this, culturally we're all eroded into a sort of semi-western globalist thing, regardless of what you think, you are far from culturally authentic compared to even recent ancestors, we're very uniform as a species these days, mindset is the largest differnce. Y'know, you won't find someone who hasn't watched a movie and finds the concept foreign, because movies are all across the world, apply that to literally everything, there are less dividers and variances. Eventually we'll all be pretty much culturally homogeneous, just varying local customs. Even visiting /int/ makes this more and more so.

we are an amerindian colony, and amerindians have made great advancements in the shaping of argentina as you see it today, it's more, argentina's original name was AMERINDIANTINA, or in quechua ''resting place of the mighty amerindian''
