The narrative is that those "irresponsible" Southern Euro's are lazy and stupid and need more Teutonic Ordnung and then they'd get everything together, but that's the pro-Euro narrative. Reality shows that not only the countries that do everything right still get shit, but on top of that going bankrupt is literally better for a country than being in the eurozone (compare Finland and Iceland). I'm pretty certain the big reason the British economy surpassed that of France (until Brexit happened) is because the British are in the privileged position of having their own fucking currency they can control according to THEIR needs, not the needs of Berlin.

The reason Merkel was practically hyperventilating when Grexit was still a possibility is because Greece defaulting would mean she'd no longer be able to use Greece's crumbling economy to artificially deflate the Euro's value and boost German exports.

Also, look at Spain in 2005. Look at how the Peseta was worth almost nothing compared to the Deutschmark. That's how the Spanish economy worked: if shit goes bad, we devaluate, export more and everything is alright. Now that Spain de facto uses the Deutschmark, everything crumbled. Practically overnight all of their devaluation policies were turned around.

And Spanish politicians will still pretend the euro is anything other than the voluntary subjugation of formerly free nations to Germany. Even Franco was smart enough to stay out of WW2.

Also the economy isn't that bad in southern europe. Part of the problem is a refusal to pay engineers more by employers that have mental issues and see us as peons. And it's still not THAT bad if you take cost of living into account, in my case I live in a normal studio and I can afford to go out to drink every now and then, eat out all the time, visit the family, etc, and save up a third of what I make. The biggest appeal of Germany in my opinion is that there's more companies hiring to choose from and still Netherlands is better.

Luckily for me my parents are wealthy as fuck so I have a good life here, I get to spend vacation in Europe, often in Norway and Switzerland so I can't complain much.
