Why is it that I understand the insane political ravings of a coked Slovenian philosopher with near perfect clarity but I still only understand about 50% of what a native French speaker says?

Is it me or do the French just stink at their own language? How do I improve my listening skills?
2nd language speakers understand each other better than they understand native speakers. This isn't something exclusive to French:

I guess bad english is the most widely spoken language.

In fact, you have to be exposed to a whole variety of accents in order to understand the man in the street.

I like your accent

The english we learn at school is more british english than american english, and most teachers are not english native speakers. I guess that's why we french often suck at english or foreign languages in general.

Interesting
this makes me feel better about the fact that I change the way I speak to be more "easy" when I'm around alot of non-natives
I don't talk like they are stupid but I try to avoid alot of the slang I usually use
>>68906639
Well at least non natives use very little slang if any, the broadness (or lack thereof) of the vocabulary may be an additionnal difficulty.

>And then there’s cultural style, Blattner says. When a Brit reacts to a proposal by saying, “That’s interesting” a fellow Brit might recognise this as understatement for, “That’s rubbish.” But other nationalities would take the word “interesting” on face value, he says.
Why are britbongs such dishonest joyless cunts?
>>68906783
I typically try to reduce my vocabulary down and be literal with the things I am saying and rephrase my statements often. I think I do this with everyone but probably more often if I know someone is learning English.

>when your English teacher loves British English and despises American English so you use American English

I'm surprised it hasn't become some sort of fusion yet.
You should speak with an Australian accent and use American spelling for maximum trolling.
because he write pretty clear and he speaks like he writes, if you only read zizek you would not think he wasn't native
so it's not fair to just say he's got a heavy accent

Kek, you did the Slovene part better than expected.
