What does /int/ think of Udachny (Удaчный), a diamond-mining town in Russia's eastern Sakha Republic?

Russian Empire had a soul to its economy though, Russia died long ago.

The nearest town is Aykhal, about 75km south. It's also a diamond-mining town with 14,000 people.
How much diamonds do they actually produce?
I'm just wondering how much that whole complex cost and will they ever get the investment back? Because there's got to be some since they do mine there but they probably are not going to find the next Cullinan there.

>The mine has estimated reserves of 225.8 million carats of diamonds and an annual production capacity of 10.4 million carats.[5]
>ALROSA (Russian: AЛPOCA)– is the Russian group of diamond mining companies, which has the leading role in the world diamond mining by volume.

Both towns (Udachny and Aykhal) were built in the 1960's. They were company towns built by the USSR, so, the investment wasn't strictly financial.
The Udachnaya pipe (diamond deposit) produces about slightly over 10 million carats per year, or more than 2,000kg. Reserves are around 220 million carats, so, the mines are viable for another two decades or so, assuming no new discoveries.
looks like a concentration camp
