There is no reason to waste that much money and time on taking anything under N2. If you study for JLPT right from the start you won't learn as well as if you just learnt regularly. You will get good at taking the test and not Japanese.
If you want something to gauge your skill, you can always take J-CAT, but I think you will learn more if you don't spend your time studying for the JLPT

So with anki I basically never hit Easy, because I never feel like I remember something without thinking yet.

This is how I'm using it:
1 3 6 10 new words
1 3 6 forgotten words

If I can remember the word after a pause I hit Hard.
If I forget, I hit Again. I usually try and think about it for a good 15 seconds or so before hitting again.
I hit Again for a revision word the first few times I see it again just to refresh my memory quickly.

It's been one month and I worry that I'm not remembering most words long term, after 1 week of not seeing them I end up hitting again. Am I fucking up?

I cram on occasion, maybe once per week, should I up my cram study?

This doesn't make any sense

At this point you should just think of どうして as it's own separate word meaning why, with similar meanings to なんで and なぜ.

そうして or そして cannot be used in place of どうして. そうして is more of something you say to connect phrases, kind of like 'and' or 'after that'.

I'm not sure what the Tae Kim question was but それはどうして? and これはどうして? are both valid things to say.

The first は is like "regarding X" and the が is like "regarding THIS X (=the one you are talking about)". At least that how I see it.

Therefore, to me, the rule is like when answering to a question about something which was asked to you need to use が.

I think the 「ほうがいい」 set phrase demonstrates the principle quite well. If we were to say 「ほうはいい」 that would just mean "this way is good" or "this way is fine/okay/etc.", but with が it becomes "this is THE good way" "this is the way it should be", "we/you/it should do x" etc.

This is expressed by ~がある(あります) and ~がいる(います) in Japanese.

それ literally translates to "it" or "that". If you use それは and 猫が together, you have two subjects to the sentence. "It is a cat exists" or something similar.

Has the users in the thread gone down since the switch?

I keep missing days in Anki because I get discouraged when learning new words. Maybe my retention is shitty but learning new words is hard. I due reviews first so I can concentrate on new words by themselves but it burns me out so fast. That I end up turning new words off for like a week. It's like I'm learning 20 new words a week. Is there anything I can do to help with this?

If you're struggling with 20 words a day and end up doing 20 a week because of it, then you may aswell start out with like 5 or 10 a day. 5 new words will take you no time. Once you get consistent with that and it gets into a habit you will probably naturally want to increase it. I used to be in the same boat, but once I started doing them again, I didn't want to break the streak.
Also I find that putting your reviews off and doing them last thing before you go to bed makes it a huge chore and you end up getting shitty retention which results in more reviews the next day. If you are doing this, then try and do them earlier. If you ever think "I'm bored" or have a little bit of free time, then do some reviews. Usually I'm like "I can take a break once I get 100 reviews down" or something. Little rewards and goals to work towards even during a single anki session

I don't think he's memeing you. There are certain things that increase blood flow to the brain, suggesting stronger development. A high carb meal increases blood to the brain, exercise also increases blood flow, and doing multiple tasks at once (such as reading out loud) also increase cognitive function.

What does this mean? When doing your reps, do anki after breakfast or lunch (or a snack), read outloud the word and meaning before and after viewing answer, and get a moderate amount of exercise every day.

There is also suggestions that prestimulus materials, such as puzzle solving (sudoku, karuo, picross), not only improve cognitive function but heighten cognitive function after finishing the activity. So if you've got time, relax with a puzzle first.

It's weird how well this mnemonic shit is working.
Currently got an 80% correct rate after 5 days/94 kanji; though I'm sure that will start to trickle down when I'm approaching 2000 of the buggers.

Some of the mnemonics the Heisig came up with are pretty tortured though. I'm having an easier time learning the radical/primitive names and coming up with my own for a lot of the kanji meanings.

With nearly 160 reviews left, Anki stopped working.

I reseted and I was still at the 160 mark, but I reviewed about 20~30 cards that I had already marked as Good today.

Has 20~30 actual cards gone unreviewed and fallen into some sort of weird limbo and time paradogs?

When you click Again the minimum number of reviews to get that card to the next day is added to your reviews left.

Let's say you had 101 cards due today, and you hit again on the first card then you close anki. Let's say the deck is set for 1/10/20/30 for forgotten cards, which is 4 reviews to get it to the next day. When you view the deck from the main menu it will show 104 reviews due today.

Does that make sense?

Not much, but let me try to explain what happened since I think I was also confusing as fuck:

During reviews, there is a number at the bottom that shows New / Studying / Review

My "Review" number was around 160 when shit hit the fan.
When I opened Anki again, that number was still 160. But several cards I had already pressed "Good" were there.

So it's like the cards got on top of the pile again, but the number didn't increase - making me believe these repeated reviews replaced a group of cards.

Can I at least expect these theoretically skipped cards are somewhere with a due date stuck to them and will eventually show up? I'm comfus.

In Japanese existence verbs, non-human can be compared to human.
'いる' is used for a person who has a will.
That is to say, it can be the passive.
夫に家にいられると困る。
I'm in trouble when my husband lives at home.
(I'm in trouble when my home is lived in by my husband.)

On the other hand, 'ある' means only an existence.
ex. There is a bed in my room.
The former word is also used for things that has a will for example animals.

Whenever we change a theme, we should use 'ところで'.
Though, there are some posts that 'ところで' does not exist.
In the case, people are often confused.

You learn, forget, and relearn most things many times before they enter your long-term memory. Whenever you forget something, know that you are that much closer to recognizing it next time. If that's the case, set a daily task of doing X reviews, instead of doing everything.
300 or 500, for instance.

In the past I've used Memrise for learning vocabulary in other languages, now I am using Anki for the first time due to Kanji purposes.

Am I missing something when it comes to new characters? I mean how am I supposed to be able to answer if I've never even seen the character before?

Kanji have two different kinds of readings, yeah? Kun-yomi 訓読み and on-yomi 音読み.

訓読み represent native Japanese words, while 音読み represent borrowed Chinese words. In English we have something similar: native English words with Germanic roots, like "I," "him," "go," "run," "tree," etc, and also words borrowed from Latin or Greek like "disgust," "explain," "interval," or "language."

In your post, 今 and 来る both use 訓読み because they are native Japanese words, not words based on ancient Chinese roots. Verbs and adjectives and other inflected words with okurigana on the end like the る in 来る are almost always 訓読み. So are simple nouns written with only one kanji like 懐 (ふところ), 礎 (いしずえ), 所 (ところ). Do you notice how these readings all have lots of kana crammed together for only one kanji? This is common in 訓読み.

In your post 人気, 今週, 来週 all use 音読み, the Chinese reading. Notice how they are two kanji put together to make a word that combines the meaning of two kanji? Now + week = current week. Come + week = coming week. This is similar to how words are formed in Chinese. When words are formed this way, the Chinese reading is used.

If you consider the word "cardiomyopathy" in English, which means "disease of the muscles of the heart," you can see that it is made of the Greek roots "cardio," meaning heart, "myo," meaning muscle, and "pathy" meaning disease. The same word in Japanese is 心筋症, which is made up of the Chinese roots しん meaning heart, きん meaning muscle, and しょう meaning disease (exactly the same as the English word).

Even if it doesn't make sense right away you will grasp the concept eventually.

Do Core like everyone else. Then when it's a month before the test you can go fill in the gaps with the JLPT vocab for whatever level you're taking.

If you're having trouble with focus and don't want to use drugs, i suggest timeboxing and studying in 2 minute intervals, it really helps me keep focused on the reps.

at least you are not a Japanese working in Japan. it would be 10 o'clock when he ends up coming home. your grammar is readable considering the context. those short sentences and green texts look legit.

if I should point out

basically, 午前 and 午後 are put before the time numbers. 5:15午後が帰る is fixed and 午後5:15に帰る would come out instead. we suppose the subject (omitted) is "I" so, for instance, the completed sentence is like 私は午後5:15に帰る(I leave workplace at 05:15 p.m.) It finally can be changed without the subject. "が" is most likely to be used to be combined with subject. if you want to use it in any way, you should use "05:15 p.m" as a subject. but I don't know how natural it is in English. in Japanese, we would say 午後05:15が退社時間(です), though.

7時の頃 is not so bad, still some people may say 7時頃 sounds better. 昼寝する in casual speaking is fine so that's ok enough. people would say 昼寝をする instead. speaking of the last one, I'll suggest 8時が勉強し始める時間になる. it sounds like the schedule is late.

Why don't japanese movies have subtitles?

Hey DJT I've started learning in the university about 3 months ago and I stopped learning Japanese. Now I want to go back and start learning again because the university is easy for me.
I around 2k cards and finished Tae Kim grammar guide.
should I start the core deck again from scratch for a refresh or just start from the point I stopped?

Japan has a culture that is very unsupportive of disabled people.
Their mental health care system is practically nonexistent, you almost never see wheelchair ramps, even major public buildings aren't fitted with hearing-aid loop systems. It should come as no surprise they cant be assed subtitling their media for the hearing impaired.

Ironically though they did invent the embossed circle stuff you see on the ground so blind people can navigate train stations and bus stops, etc.
