yeah, most of them happened when Pedro I after declaring independence had to return to Portugal after a liberal revolt in Portugal due to the royal crown fleeing to Brazil after Napoleon's invasion, when he returned to Portugal he left his son Pedro II for the Brazilian Crown , but he was still a child, and a temporary junta had to govern until he was 18, tons of revolts especially republican ones appeared in the South, North etc. The junta managed to hold off until he became 15, which then they declared him not a minor anymore, and Pedro II literally crushed every single rebellion and unified the whole country

The Spanish colonies HAD to be divided. Perhaps not as much as they were, but before the railroads lands divided by a major mountain range (the Andes) were naturally parted in twine. Argentina and Chile, Colombia and Venezuela, Bolivia and Peru, et cetera, were parted out of necessity.

Brazil for the longest time was a coastal colony. Portuguese Guyana (north of the Amazonas) and Amazonas were considered separate colonies at first, but later consolidated into the mega colony of Brasil.
