Why countries like Portugal, Spain, Italy and France that managed to conquer practically the whole world in great navigations and were rich nations are not rich like the United Kingdom actually?
>>67824171
Because the UK was the center of the industrial revolution in the late 1700's and 1800's putting them ahead of pretty much any country at the time. Also France is pretty similar to UK in terms of wealth 2bh
I thought france was richer than uk
>you will never live in a world where WW1 never happened and the german empire is the industrial, economical and scientific center of the world
>>67824171
we are richer than them pal.
what's you talking about.
>>67824171
We missed the industrial revolution bandwagon
It's depressing to just think about it Tbh
>>67827064
Can you fuck off?We didn't miss the industrial revolution,we just were very far geographically .
We had alot of textile industry back then tho.
The Portuguese went there took all the gold by force and spent it on papist bullshit
Anglos built value with government and infrastructure
>>67824392
t Hernan Cortez
>>67830075
We also have gonvernment and infrastructure,we also have more gold than them.
And we also have gold churches
>>67824171
We knew that the Eternal Arabs would be invading Europe so we played for the new meta of being poor so they go bother someone else.
Almost all our gold is still in our vaults.
>>67824171
We're about as rich as the UK, wtf are you on about
>>67824171
Lack of patriotism

It's not, and it hasn't been since 1815 France missed out on industrializing as fast as Britain because of the insane reparations they were forced to pay after the Napoleonic Wars, as well as the damage of the wars themselves and the removal of coal-rich Wallonia from France.
You have to give the British credit, they saw how dangerous France could be and kneecapped the hell out of it.
>>67839301
>we conquered Europe and terrorized Europeans for years and years and still managed to pay our debts...yet Greece can't
>>67839301
Not to mention that all the damage Britain did to France also completely destroyed its demographics. If France's birth rate hadn't basically been cut in half in the 1800s, they would have 150 million people right now.
>>67839411
>150M frenchies
Honestly, that's terrifying.
>>67839466
Imagine the size of the baguette and cigarette industry in a world where Napoleon won, or even just died before 1808.
>>67839301
>You have to give the British credit, they saw how dangerous France could be and kneecapped the hell out of it.
You say that like the rest of Europe hadn't been trying to do that since the holy Roman empire was first incepted
>>67824171
>the Uk is rich maymay
Literally only London and Southern Scotland are rich, the rest is poor af.
>>67824594
>the german "empire"
Laughing
>>67824171
The British empire was built on, and primarily a trade empire more than anything else
French, Spanish empires etc were more colonial, and were left behind in trade. Plus they almost bankrupted themselves trying to hold on to colonies whilst we just let ours go when we saw it was impossible to hold on to a global empire anymore
Where did all of the wealth end up you ask? :^)
Our gold was spend in wars and shit also we didn't have a lot of industrialitazion.
At leas we could fuck hot latinas.
>>67839301
>>67839411
>what could have been
>>67839770
London outstrips anywhere else in the UK by far in terms of wealth but because it's the capital
The rest of the country is still moderately rich apart from north wales, Scotland and Norn eire
>>67839797
Brit here is right and the Brit empire as a colonial empire with an effective administrative presence on every continent is a myth and a shit tactic anyway.
>>67839885
>France+Italy
This is my dream
>>67839938
There were some sort of self governing bodies like the thirteen colonies (reeee) and the British Raj, but yea mostly it was just natives governing natives run by some Brits thousands of miles away
>>67839301
You seem to entirely forget the second half of the 20th century.
>>67840841
>the second half of the 20th century
You mean when France officially became a second-tier power?
>>67840909
What do you mean by that ?
>>67826023
I never seen so much poverty as in France. Endless ghetto's before you reach the city center.
Fuck off. France is poor as fuck.
>>67839885
>North Portugal
>Lisbon
>No Galiza
What the shit?
>>67840909
You mean the very same moment when the UK did as well?
We are pretty much equal or comparable to France in almost every single respect statistic-wise
>>67839899
Hardly. The South East is among the wealthiest regions in Europe but the North, South West, Wales and Cornwall are Spain and Portugal levels of neglected.
Also part of the reason Spain and Portugal are way behind is because we've always been ideologically distanced from the rest of Europe. The inquisition was still in force here when the French and Germans were enjoying the enlightenment, our economy was still based on raw materials while the industrial revolution took hold, and later we were in civil war and dictatorship while Europe moved into post-war international democracy. During that time Portugal were also busy being fucking retards and spending a third of their GDP every year on military expenditure in their colonies.
>>67824171
Modern economics.
While northern Europe was developing modern banking, southern Europe was still obsessed with gold.
>>67843218
Got to show them who's boss, you know.
But yeah, you're mostly right.
>>67824171
It's a little thing called colonialist ion and revolution. The white man was superior at that time, and still is.
>>67839301
Lmao, having to pay reparations for something that they didn't even do
>>67824171
The UK was smart enough not to adopt the Euro.
>>67824171
France is pretty much the same as us
The others are Mediterranean and thus lazy
