spanish laziness.

its why nobody buys a spanish car but everyone knows what a volvo or airbus is.
>>
They were way more interested in extracting raw materials than they were with creating a global empire.
>>
it was the Hapsburg empire that got big, not Spanish

they were so large and powerful for a time that it was a deterrent for any country to fight them, and they could focus outside of Europe

Biggest loss was the Netherlands, went downhill from there as France wasn't as surrounded.

british system of private property and owner run farms instead of spain exporting feudalism is better economically and politically

Tiers of Spanish decline.
>1) Hapsburgs fuck up. Spain spends shitloads of money on European power struggles.
>2) Napoleon & Liberalism. Napoleon invades Spain. Spain BTFO. Latin Americans complain of non-representation in Spanish Kingdom and status as second class citizens. Goes muh liberalism. General revolutions around the first half of the 19th Century.
>3) Nationalism & Conservativism. Philippines and Cuba demands to be direct Spanish subjects with the same rights as Spanish Peninsular Subjects. Spain debates it out, liberals vs. conservatives. Some Carlist wars. Conservatives win in the end. Says lolno because Cubans and Flips are Indios, muh race. Spanish elites in colonies pissed off, natives in colonies pissed off. Flips and Cubans go nationalist, they revolt.
>4) Merica. Merica is on expansionism mode and both capitalist titans and war hawks demand empire. America pretends to care about Cuba because mu freedom, but really muh Sugar. A US cruiser parked in Cuba blows up due to boiler explosion, Murricans blame Spain for blowing it up. Spain cries "No Senor, No!" War. America aids Cuban/Flip Rebels. Spain BTFO. Now only has Morocco and some Islands. End of story.
Or is it? See you next time!

nothing was wrong. we were literally the loungest empire of the history besides the Roman empire. 400 years of wars against middel of the world did the empire fall, like all the empires.

Basically they were a land empire rather than a mercantile empire like Portugal or the Netherlands. They took out loans to explore the world but by the time they brought the gold and silver back it was worth less than the interest on the loans. It was actually Britain that benefitted most financially from the Spanish Empire, rather than Spain itself.

Because of this, and also because of a culture of corruption and religious fundamentalism that saw very little of the state's money used in the public interest, Spain ended up stagnant and isolated from Europe with an outdated military and navy. When Napoleon steamrolled France the army itself was no opposition at all (especially since we randomly decided to let him in) and upon this ineptitude, the majority of Latin America saw their opportunity to revolt against a powerless Spain.

>they let it slip
Did they? All that red except just a few places speaks the same language now. Imagine that, all of those hundreds of millions of people all natively understand each other. That's crazy shit 2bh

>>67767898
You can't fight everybody for 300 years, not even the British Empire could. Just notice that as soon as the americans revolted they lost their colonies. That's what happened to Spain but when we were destroyed by the napoleonic invasion.

well ,yes, but this is not even comparable.
>>
>>67771683
In any case the point is that it's considered the european colonial empire that lastest for longer. Also, they had a huge impact in the asiatic trade. Just read about their early explorers and navigators, they were always messing around with the turks, Malaca or the Chinese. We basically defeated stone age cannibals.

messing with us was the direct cause of their downfall

The problem of Spain was the small population compared with our enemies countries. Spain fought against England and France with a much lower population. We were a small nation with a huge empire. Our rulers do not even want to send settlers to America like the British did because they needed people here.

Do you mean France, England, Sweden, Portugal, Catalonia, Ottoman Empire, Portugal and german protestants? Yep, we shouldn't have declared war on everybody.

The problem with people that you is that you can't comprehend how hard was to handle such a big empire, with so many open fronts and in the XVI century and a little manpower. Moving trops back then was a pain in the ass. If the Netherlands was next to Spain inseat of covered by France (the strongest army of that time) and by England (the strongest navy of that time) you would probably speak spanish with a funny accent. Pirc related, the spanish road.

Ya sólo nos queda SEAT y como dices tú no es completamente independiente. Yo todavía recuerdo a Pegaso, que nos obligaron a desmantelarla cuando entramos en la Unión Europeda.

Ojalá vuelva algún día.

I'm more spanish than you will ever be. It's called being interested on the spanish history and not being a kid that just discovered the Tercios on Wikipedia.

>>67771873
Ultimately we got our independence and you fucked off, I call that a win.

Also we defeated you in pretty much every naval conflict.
>>
>>67771255
We may not speak the language any more, but our culture is heavily intertwined with spain and its former colonies, even after americanization. It's very intriguing by how similar our culture is with hispanic countries (especially Mexico, and Cuba) when one studies it enough.

RIP based Pegaso.
>>
>>67772031
If the Dutch can fight, and it seems they can why did the Germans cuck you so hard in WWII?
>>
>>67772287
Because Germany bordered their country unlike Spain. It's easy to look brave when the spaniards were cock blocked by the strongest army and navy of that time, and were busy fighting other nations, including having a civil war..
>>
>>67771986
>nos obligaron a desmantelarla cuando entramos en la Unión Europeda.

Para una cosa buena que tenía el franquismo, como eran todas esas empresas públicas, y las mandamos a tomar por culo a las primeras de cambio.

Buy a GMC Sierra 4X4 OFF ROAD PACKAGE STARTING AT JUST 22K 1.3% INTEREST OVER 36 MONTHS.

tbqh the only good part about GMC is that since it's still made in Canada parts are cheap, so buy a pretty middle of the road truck and do some work on it yourself for pretty cheap.

1. They did not declare war and zerg rushed us (we had good relations with germany during WW1 so we didnt really expect them).
2. We immediately flooded our borders so they could not (quickly) advance.
3. They completely leveled one of our biggest cities trough arial bombardment. They had superior tech and numbers.
4. surrender xd
>>
>>67772594
And Canada came in and told Germany to go away so we could snuggle Holland senpai :3
>>
>>67772403
I don't mean that they didn't have epic victories (link related). But the dutch always try to portray it like if it was just a fight between Spain and them but in reality, Spain was fighting against everbody.
