That piece was there back before flatscreen TV's. It is called a cathode ray tube, and ot fires electrons at the back of the screen to produce the image

This to bh (be honest)

Clean your fucking keyboard!
Behind the plastic casing is a tube through which an electron beam is fired. The beam hits different parts of a red, green and blue coloured layer behind the screen which is what produces the image you see on the TV

Wait, people actually still use these?
We still have a 36" Sony Trinitron CRT TV upstairs. It was used about 3 years before we moved. It's still a damned nice TV, and was probably the best of the best of the last CRT TVs made before "plasma" TVs took off.
It's free to anyone in Ohio that wants to come get it. I'll even buy you and your helper lunch for getting it out of here. (It weighs 220lb). Stand included.
Bring your own hernia belts.

Considering how much electricity it gulps down it's not a cheaper option in the long term.
Anyway I miss those old monitors, in some aspects they were better than those of today.
>>67709717
I saw one out in the street today for trash collection, so some people at least still have one standing around.
>>67709555

Seriously, there are still lots of them around in grandpa's basements and attics. They're heavy and hard to get rid of. Waste haulers won't take them, and recyclers don't want them. They're toxic waste, really.
OTOH, the big ones have nice big flyback transformer circuits that make wonderful Jacob's Ladders. You can jam all radio communication for a half mile and enjoy the show at the same time.

I'm going to stop when I get bored of you so get used to it :)

Need to use CRTs to play Smash Bros m8, HDTVs have too much display lag
>>67710158
te agradesco, pero no me molesta usar mi pantalla vieja
I actually still have a CRT for gaming purposes (no lag input and 4:3) and I can say that colors also look more vivid on crt than on led.

Yeah expect a visit from whatever telecommunications agency you have.
These kind of high-power emitters are triangulated very easily.
