It's basically crushing numbers and making powerpoints day in day out. I originally got hired through the engineering department because I had a joint business with engineering degree, but since i had experience in borh finance and actuary mathematics I got moved to the finance branch of the company. No, I don't collect EI, I work until into January for the scallop fishery and am back on seaweed by May. I used to do some fur trapping in the winter but not anymore, once in awhile I do taxidermy in the offseaon for a handful of people.
$75k isn't bad at all, especially in the Maritimes, but it took me a lot of money to make that much. For example I make $100 per ton for seaweed but had to buy my own boat, if I used a company boat it's only $47 per ton less fuel expenses. Lots of little things like that in fishing.
