The same can't be said for the North Vietnamese and Viet Cong who had a large quantity of soldiers involved and sustained massive death tolls.

But the truth is, the Vietnam War was lost largely on the home front instead of abroad. I think it's far more complex than that. You can lose ammunition and vehicles fine, but the effects of losing working age men (those who were soldiers) is very detrimental to a nation developmentally. This contributes to worse conditions post-war, which is an important consideration.

A vehicle or tank is made to a set specification, the performance of a singular one of these won't likely be beyond or below a set standard. You can't say the same for humans who can perform spectacularly or awfully during a conflict.

How can you calculate such a result? The VC and North Vietnamese losses weren't minor, if we include civilian casualties they were in the millions. That doesn't even mention the millions that fled South East Asia after the pro-Communist powers achieved dominion. If we took away that quantity from even modern day Vietnam, which has a 50% increase in the population from the 60s and 70s, it would be a major economic and social detriment.

Why not? The US didn't leave the region for the better, but their country wasn't ripped apart as a result. The same can't be said for Vietnam which endured years of turmoil afterward, leading to more deaths, and instability. I don't believe you can really separate post- and pre-war conditions from the actual war itself; you develop a skewed view of things.
