Even if he was to go easier on them Japanese corps do as much if not more outsourcing to China as the US does (ever heard of Foxconn?) so either way they're taking a hit and consumer prices are going up on just his current stance on China.

Trump hasn't yet said anything that could put the Japanese and Koreans at ease. IMHO he won't (common sense would dictate he can't) go as hard on them but it's all going to come down to how hard he hits Mexico first and what leverage he thinks he can get in Asia.

There is going to be a direct hit on them, Japan specifically is one of the countries Trump has refered to as "cheaters".

Fact: More "efficient" businesses tend to accrue more market share, and in some cases buy over other companies or drive them out of businesses.
Fact: To survive in such an environment, it's a race to the bottom in terms of what a company does to stay afloat (which includes buying shit from China)

ergo, changing the "floor" to the race to the bottom (tariffs) is the only way to modify behavior. That's done legally, something Trump could never have done until elected. Unless you expect him to just let his businesses die out of principle? Well okay then.

I don't see the hypocrisy here. Just like with climate change laws, it's only effective when everyone is on board. And in this case Trump has to get elected goddamn president in order to whip -all- American businesses into shape at once, not "lead by example" by walking off a cliff.
