I actually did live in Canada for a couple years, in Prince George, BC.

Advantages:

>Outstanding nearby nature, hunting, winter recreation, etc.
>Reasonable cost-of-living
>Proud locals who were generally welcoming
>Lots of local community events, local pride, well-attended local hockey team matches, etc.
>The Nechako River and its sandy clay banks; racing tubs down the banks; getting drunk with locals and rafting
>Curious friendly girls who wanted to get to know me

Downsides:

>Cold as fucking balls in the winter
>Drunk natives stealing stuff
>Kind of remote from other places
>Ungodly mosquitoes during the spring thaw
