I don't want to have children, similarly to OP's statements, I think it's cruel. As I get older though my maternal instincts are intensifying and I am debating the morality of adoption (although I doubt I will do that either). In that case it seems like it would be helpful to a child rather than hurtful, but I still feel it would be wrong of me to impose my way of life onto another person just because they are small and have different legal rights that basically puts them under my power. On one hand it's giving a person a place to live, food to eat, and a feeling of security and being loved and supported. On the other, they are an individual, and I don't see myself as especially qualified to guide another person's life.
