Being very satisfied with your life and publicly open about it is considered a stupid thing in Japan.

You may not understand this complex mindset, but we are relieved to have negative things to talk about.

>>

For corporate salarymen yes. You always see them sleeping on trains or sitting drunk on the sidewalk because it's the only free time they have.

Becoming more common with girls too. Had to break up with my last gf because she worked 9 am - 8 pm 7 days a week at her corporate job and refused to cut down her hours.
>>
>>66932680

The people working 14 hours a day don't do any work retard. Most of them just drag out simple tasks like writing e-mails as long as possible to look busy while they wait for their boss to stop jerking off on his iPhone and finally go home at 9 pm.
>>
>>66932680
before that they are inefficient as fuck and shit at taking holidays. nobody really needs to work on sunday, but they do because they one-sidedly think its convenient to everyone or something.

considering those professors and researchers who manage to get some achievements can go back home early, your conclusion sounds not so accurate.

>>66932651

Can someone explain why this graph isn't utter shite.

Why is the dystopia measurement so low for Japan when it scores well in all of the actual measured categories. If Japan was only measured by these areas then it would be a high performer on this index but it is cucked by the last factor which isn't explained.

Lets be honest you can tell the graph is shite.

Does anyone actually believe that the average German/ is enjoying life roughly to the same level as a Brazilian or that Belgiums/Irish are having sadder lives than people in shitty island countries.

Does anyone buy that you'd be happier in Panama/Argentina or Chile than in Czech/France or Spain.

Does anyone believe that fucking Colombia is a better time than Italy?

Does anyone believe that fucking El Salvador/Nicaragua and Venezuela. Two murder-villes and a fucking failed state are better places to be than Japan.

This graph is shit and probably made by retards.
>>
>>66932449
No. Japan has one of harder work cultures in the world but this isn't true.

South Korea has the hardest work ethic in Asia and I don't think 14hr would be average there either.

I imagine that 14 might be accurate when considering social activities around work but 10-12 is probably more common. Japan has a decent amount of public holidays also. People don't take their personal holiday at much of a rate.

It isn't the 1990s in Japan anymore and many companies have changes their practice quite a few now have put in relatively serious reforms however they are often flaunted. Either way the working to death culture isn't something that is growing or expanding, in about ten years it will probably be mostly done with outside from of the more traditional companies that can have the draw power to resist them.

These working conditions aren't unique to Japan, as I said Korea is worst and afaik China is looking that way in some areas. Its also pretty common in professional careers in the West. I work in finance and especially during my first 5 years it was common to be running

8.30-6.30 5 days a week on normal times (50 hour)

8.30-7.30 5-6 days a week in busier times (55-60 hour)

8-11pm in busy times (80 hour +)

This is extremely common for many of my friends in other difficult jobs as well.

Why is Sweden so unhappy compared to other Nordics?
>>
>>66942564
There is a huge genetic factor in it.
Germany's northernmost state Schleswig-Holstein always is at the top of our ranking. Currently, we have 7.41 points on the same scale is this study, which would rank us close to Finland.
Especially the Schleswig part is ethnically Danish and the happiest place in Germany, even though it is among the poorest regions in West Germany.

All I know is that my employer has offices in Germany, Switzerland, USA, Korea, and Japan. We do teleconferences of our global R&D group once a month. In the USA we have to come in early at 6AM to make it all work. We ever have to worry about Japan being on, because we know they don't go home until 8-9PM.

Our Japanese colleague came to the US for a 2 year assignment. He's a real Bro. One thing he had trouble adjusting to was that he could go home before his boss, and that staying at work past 6PM all the time was frowned upon. We would intentionally take him out for dinner the first couple of months to get him out of the office because otherwise we knew he didn't have a life and he'd stay in his cube until 9PM otherwise.

One night after a few beers I asked him what in the world they do at their desks until their boss goes home. "Space out, play games, surf, read emails, generally look busy."

Poor guy. We thoroughly infected him with the American work ethic before he went back.

Bro, do you even know how Life expectancy is calculated?, see this, from your "source", which is actually a newspaper publication:
>[t]he findings would have a minimal impact on longevity figures, which are based on census data collated during home visits. In addition, men over 98 and women over 103 are not factored into life expectancy calculations.
>>
>>66933033
Plenty of cute girls in Hokkaido, Kyushu, Tohoku.

I was surprised by how many fat and ugly people there are in Tokyo.
>>
>>66965096
It's not like the government would try to downplay this to decrease their embarrassment right?
Besides the census is only done every 5 years, if an elderly person dies a year after the census they could hide the fact for 4 more years.
The records will probably get more accurate in the future with the recent census reforms but don't try to say that the numbers were perfectly accurate before.

Well you were lucky to live to 30 and were practically guaranteed a painful death.
>>
>>66936857
latin americans have the best weather, the best women and great food.
We're chill no matter how high our crime rates are.
I know I'd be fucking miserable if I lived somewhere like France or shittyweatherland.
Also ignorance is bliss.
>>
>>66965823
>you were lucky to live to 30
Actually if you reached puberty you had good chances of reaching at least the age of 50, however infant death rates were very high, which is why the life-expectancy at birth is as low as 30.

But anyway, dying earlier and painfully does not necessarily equate an unhappy life. Sure, compared to ours their living conditions were harsh, but that was all hunter-gatherer knew, they didn't know any better, so no one was really unhappy because they knew they'd never live for 80 years (not like they had the concept of years)

the way to estimate work time is different. Mexico#1 is a joke. it's most likely that Japan doesn't count extra work time for which company doesn't pay.
