Considering the US made the first pushes back against Germany on the western and North African front AND did almost all of the fighting on the Pacific front, I think it's fair to say the US is most responsible for the victory in WWII. That isn't to underplay that the USSR was a close second because of how much fighting they did in the East.

I understand why so many Europeans say the USSR was more important to the allied victory than America, because they focus on the fighting in their home countries, but seriously, the Pacific front was a big damn deal. One could argue that it was a more destructive conflict than the war in Europe.
