The English haven't been a major immigrant group to the US in hundreds of years, very few actually English-Americans exist.

Nah we were still sending loads of people in 1800s because the US was giving free land and they wanted white, english speaking protestants. There are no cool immigrant films about us because we just instantly assimilated.

I feel like this is probably a misconception, much like the idea that English people are predominantly Saxon or Irish people are predominantly Celtic.
