Well this doesn't answer your question exactly but I live in California, so it's pretty normal for me to take a trip to another part of california that requires anywhere from 4 to 8 hours of driving. For example, my relatives live 6 hours away from me and I drive to see them a couple times a year. If I want to go to another city to do something, it's usually like an hour of driving at least.

I don't know about people who are trying to run a business and make money, but in Cali it's not unreasonable to drive 4 hours to go do something for leisure, like go to a concert or go hiking or something. When I was going to uni I drove about 45 minutes each day to get there, alot of people have a commute to work that is about an hour long drive.
