DREAMWORLD WATCH DAY 3
WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR
>4 people still dead
>police removed shredded raft for examination
>victims either decapitated, cut in half, or generally mangled to death by conveyor belt
>record of shitty maintenance, previous incidents emerging
>stock dropped 22%
>was caught on security camera but as yet has not been leaked and guest phone videos have not be released
>dreamworld plans to reopen tomorrow
As you can see from the OP picture, the rafts have 3 sections of 2 seats.
To the left of the seat in the centre of this picture is where another seat WAS

>in Australia, dead people remain dead
shit country, pour ĂȘtre honnĂȘte
The industrial ass conveyor belt, designed to move several tons of rafts and guests at a time, so you can imagine how easily it continued to operate when humans were introduced between it
>>66638685
>victims either decapitated, cut in half, or generally mangled to death by conveyor belt
Why? Did they leave their rafts? Why does a river raft ride need a belt to bring you into the air?
Why are Australian theme parks such shit?

I think what happened was that one boat got stuck, but the one behind it continued to operate. So it moved forward, pushed against it enough to flip it, because the stuck boat couldn't move.
Something like that, anyway.
The person in charge of the emergency shut off button was an 18 year old girl working her first day.
The section the stalled raft was in apparently had a malfunctioning pump and as such the water was too low and the stalled raft was basically on the base of the channel, allowing the flipped raft to get up ontop of it, combined with the conveyor movement flipped it.

someone on /b/ made an illustration and explanation. posting:
>rafts go down giant mechanical conveyor belt (similar to escalator) and into the water
>one somehow got stuck at the bottom
>second one comes down, but coolides with the stuck raft
> half in the water, half still on moving conveyor belt
>the front gets pushed up above the first raft
>the moving conveyor belt then gets pulled down (apply physics here)
>2 people at the front get flinged off and survive
>2 at the back get pulled completely under the conveyor belt and drown
>2 in the middle get caught directly in the end of the conveyor belt and are mangled/ crushed by huge machine.
See picture for reference

Why do Australians need to be airborne on a river raft ride?
>>66638815
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_rapids_ride
There are literally 40 times as many of these rides in American then there are in Australia. I would imagine they would be being assessed in light of this.
>>66638685
>>stock dropped 22%
this must have been one of the most brutal deaths in the past decade to do that
>>66638685
Who fucking cares, really?
>>66638685
I really feel bad for the kid whos mom died, shes gonna have PTSD from the whole thing
>>66638910
because its probably one of the most brutal deaths to happen in public
>>66638902
It is the 2nd worst theme park disaster in Australian history. The first being arson on a ghost train in the 1970's killing 7.
>>66638899
There definitely is; theme parks have a good track record here though.
>>66638910
A
FUCKING
LEAF
>>66638914
It makes me feel feels.
However 2 of the dead were fags, so eeh
JUST IN
Dreamworld will NOT reopen tomorrow as planned due to government intervention. Will remain closed until ATLEAST Monday
I think the reason why this is fascinating to so many people is because so many of us have childhood memories of going to theme parks.
In particular, anyone who lived in Queensland has childhood memories of going to dreamworld and going on that very ride.
Combine that with the fact that normally, when an accident like this happens, its usually at a fete or in a smaller, local theme park.
Dreamworld is the biggest theme park on the continent as well as the biggest tourist draw in the region. It's the last place you would expect a serious accident.
I think at the end of the day, its a news story involving bizarre deaths and an "IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU TOO" flair.
And not to mention the legal shitstorm you can already see brewing on the horizon.
>>66639075
I was a Movie World boy, but I went to Dreamworld once as a child and rode it once on a high school trip.
>>66639075
Yeah it's so fucked up. I rode it last in 2006 or 2000 but still it makes me scared of theme parks now
>>66639075
>>66639128
I miss Police Academy every day
>>66638930
>good track record
Like your airline industry, the safety track record is god awful.
>>66639345
I honestly don't think any country has a good track record in amusement parks. I mean for fucks sake, they're filled with machines meant to make us feel like we're falling to our deaths at high speeds. Still fun though.
>>66639468
Australia did up until 2pm Tuesday
Why are australians so fucking hyped by this?
Fuck off already.
>2 people cut in half after riding on a raft ride
And we meme the Chinese for their escalator shit. Fuck Australians.

I can't find any numbers on amusement park deaths, but for America. The fuck?
>>66638685
Why's it still going on, wasn't the problem already figured out
anyone know where the people who were flung free were seated?
>even empty boat gave "fuck off we're full" stance on local boat people
>>66638685
>4 people still dead
don't spook me
