We're basically a miniature American army. F16's, F35's, patriot missiles. Apache's, chinooks, soon drones. And our military is aimed for intervention missions. So a lot of focus is put on being able to deploy it anywhere.

Eh, not really true. Italy and Germany (yeah I know) both have significant numbers of Tornados and Typhoons, and Sweden has a large number of Gripens.

And it's not really air force, but hell, Spain and Italy have carriers, sort of. And they'll have F-35Bs for them soon.
