How are there so many people who think socialism doesn't work when the Nordic countries do it so well?
>>66538232
Do you really think those countries are actually socialist or is this bait?
They are social democratic. They may have high taxes and a big welfare system, but a very free market, a lot of privitisation, and low beaurocracy.
It's a downgrade compared to America but better than countries like Israel.
Socialism does work if your populace are willing to be herded and robbed.
>>66538335
>very free market, a lot of privitisation, and low beaurocracy.
But the difference between them and America is why they're doing so much better than we are.
>>66538471
They are small homogenus countries with oil and no wars. You can't compare them to the USA for the same reason you won't compare Monaco to the USA.
>>66538232
ahem...
nordic model is not socialism but socialism-lite
by using heavy taxation it by-passes social ownership by making taxes pay for things proletariat ownership was suppose to make
they are cheating
>>66538567
>They are small homo countries with oil and no wars
>>66538232
Because it's hip to be contrarian.
>>66538329
They do call themselves socialist even though technically their political system is capitalism not socialism. This is a game of definitions. So called "socialist" in Latin America, for example, is something completely different. Maybe Nordic countries could be better defined as capitalist-socialist welfare states.
>>66538567
>small homogenus countries
heh
>>66538765
Why can't we cheat?
>>66538920
>their political system is capitalism
>This is a game of definitions.
well let's play. first: capitalism is an economic system not a political one.
>>66538955
we could but i don't want to so i will vote against cheating.
>socialist
I'm pretty sure it's easier to be a capitalist in Sweden that almost anywhere in the world.
Also there was something about Denmark getting angry and Bernie Sandals for calling them socialists.
>>66538955
americans hate each other so communal support is out of the question
>>66538232
For one thing, they're social democratic, not socialist. But let's assume you mean to ask why people don't think social democracy wouldn't work if they do it so well.
Do you think those countries are good because of their democratic socialist policies? Or do you think their homogeneity, great wealth, high IQs, and work ethic allow their systems to function?
>>66539015
yawn -> /pol/
>>66538567
Norway has lots of oil but neither Sweden or Finland have any significant amounts (its about the level of the Czech Republic), Denmark does have a marginal amount.
>>66539161
Sweden has lots of industry. Namely, Ikea and car manufacturing.
>>66539108
All those things are directly impacted by the wealth and opportunities of the lower class. Look at what happens in America when the lower class is ignored.
>make people poor and make them dependent of benefits
>say people will lose their benefits if they dont keep the socialist regime in power
>stagnation with poor demographics growing and the ruling carreer politicians getting richer with their outrageous pays
Socialism in nutshell
Kill all socialists
>he thinks the Nordic system is called socialism
Not this again.
>>66539232
Which florishes under a free market.
>>66539087
Not when the government forces you to pay your fair share. The only thing we need to do is vote for it to happen.
>>66539579
Would you prefer Sanderism?
>>66539740
better than hillary tbqhwy
>>66539740
What the fuck
I'm just going to leave this thread now
>>66539793
Sorry. I'm not a fan of $15 an hour, and I'm an advocate for raising the minimum wage.
>>66538232
It only works in Norway because they have oil to pay for it.
>>66539538
Sweden was that way before they had socialist systems in place. The working class has always needed to have more value placed on it because they're limited in numbers.
>>66539740
>american education
>>66540022
>Implying Sanders doesn't jerk off the Nordic countries harder than his wife's dick
>>66539930
America has lots of ways to pay for it. We just don't.
>>66540022
Sanders basically sites the Nordic model constantly, so it's fair to say what he wants is just the most that that he can get within the American system.
>>66539916
Then you'd hate Sweden, which has no minimum wage
So, in a nutshell, the econony works in Sweden because of high taxes. It doesn't in America because we hate each other and keep everything to ourselves. Is that right?
>>66539740
At first I thought it was a joke about sandpeople
>>66540297
Let me just go up to my American boss and say, "I have no skills, but I'd like to be paid $12 an hour." In America, they'd laugh at you. In Sweden, they'd blow you for it.
>>66540151
>his wife's son's dick

>>66539579
who is sandels?

Only for Norway, they have a population of 5.3 million and a soverign fund of $850 billion.

>>66538232
If Nordic countries are so well off then why are they subservient to other countries and entities like the US, Russia and EU. Social democracy only works if the countries around you are being exploited for your benefit. There can't be a Netherlands or Sweden without a Poland and Romania. And without big bro US doing all of that military spending for your sake.
>>66540960
That means America could make it work better. More people = more laborers = higher GDP = more tax money.
>>66538232
This countries could be better but why they are obsessed by multiculturalism and hate their own culture?
>>66541082
>There can't be a Netherlands or Sweden without a Poland and Romania
We have Mexico and Canada.
>>66541175
Very different relationships
>>66538232
They arent socialist, and the system that they have is doing awful
>>66539232
FINLAND HAS NOTHING
ONLY ALTIA, ALKO AND SADNESS
>>66541345
>the system that they have is doing awful
They have the highest happiness index in the world.
>>66538232
That's social democracy.
Socialism is when workers control companies instead of companies being controlled by one person or some shareholders.
Socialism doesn't even need a government.
>>66541082
>He thinks USA lifts a finger regarding Finnish defence
>>66541386
also the highest use of anti-depressants
>>66541441
This has been addressed already. If you want to add value to the conversation, bring up why Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark are all doing so well economically while everyone in the lower class in America struggles.
>>66541441
>Socialism doesn't even need a government.
Except for that moment when the workers who control the companies have to think about how to organise all the interwoven shit you need to keep an infrastructure up and start electing councils who make funny 4year plans for them.
>>66541494
BECAUSE THEY HAVE ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE!
>>66541545
>everyone in the lower class in America struggles
I wouldn't consider having your well being completely funded (and most often exploited) as struggling m8
>mfw Laquisha, Tyrondus and co. spend all their money on pot, bling, shoes and none to feeding their brood of 30 children
>>66541345
>t. Broken Britain
>>66541711
>I heard of a black guy who spent more money on himself than his kids, therefore the economic problem in America is because all blacks are lazy, self-entitled criminals
>>66541808
>the economic problem in America is because all blacks are lazy, self-entitled criminals
you said it, not me.
>white liberals are the only ones crying about blacks being oppressed by foodstamps and wellfare
Because they're not socialist. They're mostly capitalist with some social components.
I'm going to ask why you turn to the theology of many failed economies when you want to turn away from what is arguably the most stable economic system we have.
>>66542025
>You said it not me
>Missing the point of meme arrows

Because it's not working. When the lower class struggles to survive as much as it does, it affects all classes.

We'll probably be cheating in 30 years once Bernie voters become the majority of Democratic politicians and the GOP has become non-viable
>>66542170
Lol does Finland even have an economy?
>>66542084
hey m8 don't get snippy with me, I was agreeing with you, blacks are a blight that, if removed, would improve the nation by a huge margin. seeing as that's impossible, we can stop enabling their niggertry by defunding the programs that keep them in "poverty."
keep fighting the good fight anime poster!
>>66542135
>because its not working
>lets go back to something that also didnt work
wut.
>>66542261
I get that this was supposed to be ironic, but it made me cringe.
>>66542390
>Highest happiness index in the world
>Doesn't work
We should have dropped the nukes on you lot tbhfam.
No it doesn't work. We're running out of money and workforce, importing huge amounts of immigrants instead. Not ok
>>66542479
We do that same thing, only those immigrants outcompete us after agreeing to work for pennies.
nordics are not socialist
STOP THE MEMES
>>66542537
Lucky you. The immigrants of Europe mostly just collect welfare, rape and kill people
>>66542242
Actually we are going to sell you elevators for 200M€ in 2 years, today's news.
>>66542792
>finnish elevators
do they come with vodka dispensers? keke
>>66542135
>Because it's not working.
Really? Most poorfags here in the US live in a home of some kind, have access to internet, can a lot of food year round, doesn't have to worry about diseases, can consolidate earnings to a retirement account if they're not financial retards, and don't really have to worry about shortages for goods and services. Does capitalism not work for you because you don't get to fly to Europe three times a week for vacation?
Capitalism has done an incredible amount of work lifting people out of absolute poverty, and although there are some shitty side effects to it, the benefits far outweigh the costs.
Venezuelans HATE the socialist government, but you asshats keep moving the goalposts and say "i-it's not real socialism!".
What gives everyone the right to own the farmer's land if the farmer knows how to exploit the land to yield more crops? The farmer's knowledge is far more valuable than his hireling, there's no reason to not compensate him more because "it's not fair."
>>66542883
can eat a lot of food*
>>66542440
Social democracy isnt socialism but only basic redistribution.
Also you need an incredible hightrust society for that which you dont have.
We had rhineland capitalism on the western side of the wall for a time, which was pretty dank.
>>66542883
All the things you listed America as having, Scandinavia has much more of. Plus, you'd be appalled how many Americans don't even have those things (although you'd probably just ignore it).
>>66542652
That's what immigrants do in Finland? Kek that's what our police do here.
Hahahahahahahaha
>>66542242
Kinda ironic considering the fact rest of the world is pretty much banana republic compared to us
>>66543143
>missing the point
Again, Scandinavia is not socialist, they're primarily capitalist with some social welfare sprinkled in.
>clearly capitalist nations with strong social democracy elements
>socialist
LIBERALS GET OUT
>>66543297
>missing the point
We're not here to discuss the contemporary vs traditional definition of socialism. We're discussing America's economic policies vs. Scandinavia's.
>>66543446
Then dont spread lies retard
>How are there so many people who think socialism doesn't work when the Nordic countries do it so well?
>>66543351
>complaining about that while simultaneously copying the retarded American definition of liberal
>>66543490
It's most often modern liberals in developed societies all over saying we need a "mix" of the two economic ideologies, and they say the Nordic countries do it well.
>>66543446
Then please give me a concrete argument instead of shifting goalposts and saying "Scandinavia does it better"

The entire point of this thread has been comparing two regions' economic policies. Don't get mad when you set a bait goalpost and I don't fall for it. Read the thread.
