How are Judges picked in your cunt? In Canada they are selected by their peers. Being called to the bench is a great honor, it is the capstone of a distinguished career in the practice of law. In Murrica they somehow have Judges who are the kinds of people to host trashy daytime talk shows. A Canadian Judge would NEVER lower himself to such horseshit.
On top of that, Murricans may even elect Donald Trump of all people to be their President. Fucking kek. What is wrong with your country?

>What is wrong with your country?
Yeah, what the fuck Americans
Federally, they're appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate.
Statewide, 4 states appoint them as well (2 by the Governor w/ legislature confirmation like the Feds, the other 2 by the legislatures themselves), while the rest elect them, some using different means than others.
Also, TV Judges are retired State judges; even in the US it'd be dishonorable for a sitting judge to lower himself to such entertainment.
Here's a shitty map I made a while back, it should get the point across.

STOP IT! YOU"RE MAKING EVERYONE HATE US AGAIN.
do you mean the judges of supreme court or what?
supreme court judges are nominally appointed by the president, although he doesn't really get a say in who gets chosen
there is always a president of the supreme court and at least 15 other member judges, currently there are 18
supreme court has nowhere near the same amount of power that the us version has

>supreme court has nowhere near the same amount of power that the us version has
Just out of curiosity, what kind of power does it have?

Maryland is wrong. Atleast the local judges, we're having an election for them this year.
Elected judiciary is the worst possible system. The corruption it creates is legendary.

I believe Merit Selection has an Election component to it, but I could be mistaken. In any case I agree with you, especially w/ partisan elections.
>americans vote on judges

>muh democracy
The Founding Fathers were right to shield SCOTUS from that.

>In Canada they are selected by their peers.
That's not bad, actually.
Here they're appointed by the executive and approved by the president, but the latter doesn't actually have a say. It's pretty stupid, honestly, because judges are political appointments, just like in America. Judges should never be politicised; they're there to basically translate the existing law into applicable situations, not advance an agenda.

>while the rest elect them
That's absolutely insane.

Finland is a civil law country, so they don't have the same power of basically making law as common law judges do. There's also no system of precedent, as we both have. It's the same in Louisiana, afaik.
