>Thinking of moving to Canada

Literally Why? Your only options as far as seeking serious employment as an none established immigrant are Toronto and parts of Vancouver.

Obviously this is just a wiki article and nothing set in stone but this shit is mickey mouse tier compared to about anywhere in the USA.
>>
>>66307734
The US will universally have more or better jobs for that or pretty much any engineering over Canada, don't do it
>>
>>66308108
I want to start over

I am only a network engineer and I can get a job like that anywhere. I want to live in Canada and enjoy the rest of my life there..

If you want m8, but it'll be a minimalist lifestyle for a while until you get settled in for a few years.
>>
>>66307734
Tech industry is shit in Canada, you literally make over twice as much in the USA and there's a SHITload of more jobs

There's actually a brain drain of tech workers to the USA because most here are underemployed and make shit pay
>>
>>66308138
What compells you to go to Canada ratger than just another state
>>
Average salary of network engineer in Canada:
>$50,409 USD
Average salary of network engineer in USA
> $92,000 USD

Having said that, I gave up a lot more than $41,591 a year to live in Canada. Money isn't everything
>>
>>66308432
>Care to talk about it?
>I have a lot in life, but think it is time for a gf

I had a lot going for me too, I was set to take my place in my father and grandfather's trucking business. Met a poor, rural Canadian girl while on vacation, fell in love with her family, the country, people, etc and decided to move here and make my own path as a simple fisherman.

I have never regretted it. I see my brothers back home, and they are everything I don't want to be.

>Man

I am on a path to make 6 figures one day
I am up for a promotion in the next couple of months and that will bring me to 85k with bonuses, I do not know what I am doing in life anymore. Between the conference calls, and the amount of projects I am working on just for this year alone is starting to get to me,
>>
>>66308933
If the job is already weighing on you that bad, it might be best to reset and find something in your field, somewhere, that offers a slower pace and more time for the things you enjoy. It will be worth it when you can look back and say that you raised a family and lived a life rather than just payed for a family and their lifestyle.

A Canuck dad who works in network engineering 55 hours a week for $65k will always be happier than someone who worked 85+ hours a week for $120k.
>>
>>66309224
>85+ hours a week
What? To get that you would need to work 7 days a week and like 4 hours overtime every day
>>
>>66309310
>I'm on call for the next two weeks
>You work day and night if need be
>I am salaried and my bonuses are capped
>NO overtime
>>
>>66309310
With most higher end jobs you are at the mercy of your phone and email day and night.
>>
>>66309377
Oh I thought you meant 85+ hours at the workplace, I am aware of phone and email situation for high end jobs
>>
>>66308218
>There's actually a brain drain of tech workers to the USA because most here are underemployed and make shit pay
Not a bad idea really. Take advantage of the cheap uni in Canada and immediately move to the US to avoid the taxes but at the same time aren't saddled with monstrous student loan debt
>>
>>66309707
This is common throughout Canada.
I live in the most homogeneous region in North America, we have like 6 immigrants in my town and 5 of them are doctors. It's impossible to find a Canadian Doctor within 100km of me, they all go for the higher wages in the U.S. leaving us with eastern euros
My last 3 physicians:
>Irena Kaminska
>Tilda Konforte-Vasiljevic
>Lalik Jolanta

They barely speak English.
>>
I'm a front-end dev with 4 years experience trying to get a job in Canada. I currently live in Brazil and have been sending out a shit-ton of resumes to Canadian companies but I'm getting rejected left and right... Is it really that hard to get a job in Canada? Should I try immigrating first? How long would that take?
>>
>>66309906
>Come to America
>We need more talent especially in our company
>I meet Brazilians at work/conventions sometimes
>They have been here for years and are tough/good people to work with
>>
>>66309947
I would fucking love to go to America. But I'm trying Canada since I've heard it's an easier time getting into. What would you suggest I try? Just sending out resumes to American companies as well?
>>
>graduating with a meme computer science degree from uoft
>only reason i dont drop out is cause of wrestling team

I really don't like what I'm studying, i don't want to do this for the rest of my life and don't care about the money anymore. I graduate in about 8 months

I want to get into the RCMP or OPP and work my way up to the tactical units

Am i making a mistake lads?
>>
>>66309906
>Is it really that hard to get a job in Canada?

Yep

>Should I try immigrating first?

As far as I know this is how it has to be done now but It's also hard to establish yourself here without working. Rich Chinese have made it incredibly hard for other immigrants because of the stifling competition.

>How long would that take?

Honestly I have no idea, check around the internet.
>>
>>66310072
>Do it

You only get one chance at life. Life it how you want and be good

>>66310015
I think a lot of this depends on what your really want man. America, Canada, Mexico they have some great opportunities though and it would be a good idea to just try to move first and settle in over time. There are jobs out there, we even have spots we can not fill..
>>
>>66309906
You need to immigrate first. There used to be a program where companies could easily hire foreign workers, even in unskilled labour, my good friend came from the UK on this program, but the government is trying to phase out the program and has made it increasingly difficult for companies year by year. At this point basically no one is doing it anymore since it's such a hassle (nova scotia still does quite a bit though but only for offshore oil workers)

You can get in a couple other ways though, and relatively easily. The Federal skilled worker program is your best bet since you're in a highly specialised field, the other way is to learn fluent French, especially in New Brunswick, they have thousands of vacancies that need filled by Francophones and if you know Ftench they will do something called Provincial nomination, where the Province actually sponsors you for permanent residence and later citizenship.

RCMP also have tech divisions and I heard they now accept applications from non-resident citizens (may or may not be true)
>>
>>66310179
We are hiring French speaking techs in Waterloo

Rather not discuss this completely, but our office/dept in Waterloo are growing and if you speak French they get hired right off the bat.

>>66310072
Definitely try for the RCMP if that's what makes you happy, but be careful not to do it if you ONLY want to be in a tactical unit like ERT. It's a good goal, but if for whatever reason you don't make it, you have to be comfortable being just a normal officer.
>>
>>66310221
Yeah, it's big throughout Canada right now, the government wants bilingual employess across the board and there just aren't that many qualified and interested fluently bilingual people in Canada.
>>
>>66308432
>Money isn't everything

Wrong. You'll learn.
>>
>>66308218
I work at a tech company HQed in Silicon Valley and we have a shit ton of Canadians relative to what one might expect.

>It really is

I work a lot and put in a lot of hours whether i an on call or not. The amount you get paid and sometimes the amount of work it doesn't make sense. For what a job like this entails and how much I should be making doesn't match. For what I do I need to be at six figures by now. The promotion in a few months will only take me to 85k

:(
>>
>>66309857

lol all the doctors where I live are south africans who don't wanna deal with US ridiculousness (their words, not mine) and like the northern wastes.

I live on the west coast jungle, though, so it's not too crazy and hunting is great, and that's a big part of it.
>>
>>66310416
Get a new job in a different line of engineering. I.e. become a dev or systems engineer.
>>
>>66310479
I want to be director of IT
>>
>>66310513
Then you're probably shit out of luck other than just vertically climbing (not necessarily within the same company). You have to be a manager before you'll ever be a director.
>>
>>66310513
FUCK

Just received an email from one of our offices, I should have a meeting soon

I am in the US what time is it in Japan?
>>
>>66310563

Shit, it is nearly 8am + over there

I will have to figure something else out, we also design networks in other countries and when they need assistance with some thing, they contact me but I am based out of the US
>>
>>66310163
Sorry I don`t follow. What do you mean move and settle in over time? How would I move there without a job first?
>>
>>66310348
>you'll learn

I'm 32 and have a wife and 2 kids with another on the way. When exactly will I learn this?
>>
>>66310681
>Figure it out

There is no excuse to change your life, and if it takes a couple of months to study, apply, prepare to move, move to a new place

Remember, as long as you try you make it
