As I mentioned in >>66192740, I studied intensively in Daegu, Korea. Korean is hard for people with no knowledge of any 'Asian' languages, but it's doable if you work hard. Not being a native English speaker will help with pronounciation as well.

It's fucking balls man. Summer lasts about 5 months and is scorching hot, winter lasts about 5 months and is freezing cold. We barely have fall and spring anymore even though Koreans pride themselves so much on having four seasons.
On the plus side, it almost never rains and everything has aircon and floor heating.

As long as you're not in Seoul, yes. People in Seoul can be nice too, but because of the bad reputation travelers made for foreigners here it's a bit of a mixed bag. Outside of Seoul people are very friendly though, especially when you can speak Korean. It's hard to really get close to Koreans who don't speak English unless you're really fluent, but they will always do their best to help you.

When my family came to visit, they had a really hard time because they don't like eating 'weird' things, and everything that isn't potatoes or meat is weird to them. That kind of attitude won't get you very far here. It also helps if you can stand spicy food, I guess. Overall I think Korean food is really good, yet rather similar.

As the 한국인 said, I haven't lived in every country on earth so I don't know, but I know people who have studied 4 (F O U R) years to pass a fucking test for the honor of being a governmental worker so I'd say it's pretty competitive. Even kids in school are driven crazy to get the highest grades in the class, not because they care but because their parents are obsessed with it. I can see this getting less maybe a couple of generations in.

Not in the Murrikan flag waving way, but in the 'my country is never wrong but others are' and 'OMG HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT ABOUT MY COUNTRY LIARRRRRR'. They are extremely irrational when it comes to Japan. Japanese are extremely irrational when it comes to Korea. In the end, I don't think any of them actually hate the people, just the governments. It makes sense, considering Japan burnt Korea down to the ground more than once or twice.
