I know a couple of mixed Lutheran/Catholic couples and they were married in church. Religion of kids depends on how parents decide there's no convention about it.

No one, apart from some villagers up in the mountains, takes it that seriously though.

Noone cares outside of the 0,1% of population who are religious nutjobs.

You don't have to be of the same religion to marry. If you want to marry in a church too, you either take the same religion or, now more common, announce to raise your children in the way on of the churches wants.
It really depends on the personal opinion of the priest/pastor.
But interfaith marriages are not as common as you might think, since even in German you have clear lines on local levels.

I think a while back I saw some Russian explain that it's some group of people from Asia that was resettled there during Soviet times.

Fun fact: they also have an entire oblast way out in Asia dedicated to Jews that was created before Israel was in the 30s to house the Russian Jewish population. There's only a small number of Jews still there though. It also has a rainbow flag.

my granddad was catholic and my grandmom was protestant, he converted to protestant

apparently it was a big deal when they got married but i do not think anyone cares nowadays. i think if a couple is the church-going kind of religious, the man converts to the woman's religion
