The main reason western commieblocks become ghettos is architecture planning.
Russian commieblocks have good infrastructure neigbourhood like schools, convenience shops, police stations and parks implemented during soviet times.

Apart from that, internal building planning is vital too. You don't build huge ass corridors for all these hookers and crack dealers to stand in a row and organize a shooting gallery.
You separate a commiebliock in sections with 4-6 flats per floor. And then fill it with people of different social tatus, workers, teachers, doctors and office dwellers.
It just werks here in Russia.

My neighbourhood. The flats are cheap, yet large and safe from rats. The parking lot is tastefully arranged into terraces, and most of the space around the buildings are full of greenery. The buildings themselves have a pretty unique architecture. I've basically grown up in this area, and I can't think of any better neighbourhood in my city.

Dr Fries Torg could definitely look nicer. I think part of it is is the lack of greenery on the actual square coupled with the awful stone slabs they put all over it. It looks pretty dead even in the summer.

Thanksfully they're finally renovating the facade of the buildings I live in after them looking like complete 60s abortions for decades. The surrounding areas are all great though; lots of greenery and gravel trails for jogging.
