Irish Anons, what do you think of IRA propaganda music like the foggy dew, go on home British soldiers, come out Ye black n tans etc.?

If I sang one of these songs in a pub how would people react? Would it be far different of a reaction in Ulster?
>>
They knew how to fucking make music, I'll tell you that.
>>
>>66087441
>Would it be far different of a reaction in Ulster?
depends on the pub I'd guess
>>
There's some good punk too

Whenever I listen to some Irish folk music on Youtube, Irish rebel songs always come up in the suggested videos.
They're pretty good though.

OP should try it out and report back.

Seriously though (I'm English not Irish btw so might be off the mark) I think they'd be thinking what a plastic paddy/muh heritage type you are. LITERALLY appropriating their culture.

Yeah coming from an American I imagine they'd be pissed lol.
>>
>>66088118
This famalam
>>
>>66088447
I dunno about pissed off so much as rolling their eyes quietly in the background. We all find the romantic views yanks hold towards ye olde world as pretty amusing, hence the MUH meme. Making bold statements on conflicts you don't properly understand the complexity of (the troubles) is likely to make people pissed off though.
>>
>>66088477
Yeah. I'm working part-time and saving up to take a trip this summer after I graduate HS and before I go to college. Dublins definately an option also thinking of Osaka or Mexico City
>>
>>66088883
Go to Mexico.
Pints are like $10+ a piece in Dublin, save it for when you've got money and aren't on the pull/piss. (I'm guessing that's what you'll be doing)
>>
>>66089085
this

skip dublin.
>>
>>66089085
Yeah I'll probably get fucking done in and take advantage.

I just turned 18 last week which seems to be the normal drinking age but burgers are 21+ so I'm held to drinking shitty burgerbeer in the woods with dumb normie teens.
>>
>>66087441
>IRA
Good lads, bit too socialist for my liking but i can't fault their motivation
>music
Brilliant, love a few chucky choons after some seshing
>If I sang one of these songs in a pub how would people react
Would most likely sing along with you
>different reaction in Ulster
Depends where you go lad, Catholic areas would give you an even more patriotic reaction that the Free State, Protestant areas would kick your head in
>>
I personally don't recognise anything sung in English as being Irish music.
>>
>>66089450
nothing wrong with burgerbeer, but an 18 year old definitely shouldn't be drinking in the park lmao. go to mexico, you can have all the booze you'd have drunk in europe, cheaper, with slags galore. it'll be great.

going to send my son over to spring break in mexico when he's your age to slay yank fanny with his sophisticated accent.
>>
>>66089620
Aren't you hard to please
>>
>>66089715
Singing rebel songs in the language of the enemy is silly and just highlights how paper thin the patriotism really is. It's not a big ask to sing in the national language instead.
>>
>>66090045
OOROOOOO SE DO BEATHA BHAILEEEEE
>>
>>66090045
Aww i suppose Fields of Athenry is just West Brit nonsense then
Fuck off
>>
>>66090045
does good Irish language rebel music exist?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6miaTf1gF4g
I only know this song
>>
Fun fact: There are still weekly terrorism-related events happening in Northern Ireland.
>>
>>66090141
Yes. The language of Ireland is meant to be Irish.
Don't get annoyed because you'd rather be a lazy Shoneen. You don't even have to learn the language, just the phonetics.
>>
>>66090209
Fun fact: it's great craic
>>66090262
I can speak some Irish lad and am currently learning more but you're still fulla shite
>>
>>66090309
We NEED to send the paras back.

spoiler: to Belfast
>>
>>66090309
>I can speak some Irish lad and am currently learning more but you're still fulla shite
You just find the reality uncomfortable and are lashing out as a result. I know it can be hard to realise the things you like are shit, but I've had friends who've been through that so I know it's something you can overcome.
>>
>>66087441
>If I sang one of these songs in a pub how would people react?
In the South, England and Wales, people would just roll their eyes and someone might tell you to shut up
In some parts of Scotland you might get ignored, and in other parts you might get chucked out and beaten up
In some parts of Northern Ireland at the least you'll get ignored and at the most you'll get cheered add they'll join in. In other parts, you'll get the shit kicked out of you at the very least, killed at the most
Would it be far different of a reaction in Ulster?
>>
>>66090389
I should add that soccer is shit and people who like it are West Brits.

the irish may be a bunch of inbred potatoes, but fuck me if hurling isn't the best sport that was ever created.

Excuse me but
>We are now free in name. The extent to which we become free in fact and secure our freedom will be the extent to which we become Gaels again. It is a hard task. The machine of the British armed force, which tried to crush us, we could see with our physical eyes. We could touch it. We could put our physical strength against it. We could see their agents in uniform and under arms. We could see their tanks and armoured cars.

>But the spiritual machine which has been mutilating us, destroying our customs, and our independent life, is not so easy to discern. We have to seek it out with the eyes of our mind. We have to put against it the whole weight of our united spiritual strength. And it has become so familiar, how are we to recognise it?

>We cannot, perhaps. But we can do something else. We can replace it. We can fill our minds with Gaelic ideas, and our lives with Gaelic customs, until there is no room for any other.

If I learned Gailic and kept it secret until an opportune moment would Irish people like me?

Or will I always get eyerolls no matter what?
>>
>>66093109
People would likely be kinda pleasantly surprised. Most wouldn't be able to reply though.
>>
>>66093109
Any negative response would be because they were embarrassed you spoke it better than they did.
>>
>>66087441
>if I sang one of these songs in a pub how would people react?
You'd be laughed at down here, possibly kneecapped up north
>>
>>66093109
They'd probably argue over your phrasing and pronunciation.
Most people that know Irish are just autistic cuntjobs anyway. The kind of people that would correct a joke or demand sufficient evidence for a simple anecdote
>>
>>66094147
Bad experience with a gaeilgeoir?

>>66087441

I'm Irish-Canadian. first generation born in Canada. My family is deep irish. Mostly Catholic Family in the north. It was a dangerous place to be. My nan is the happiest woman in the world, absolutely lovely. Fantastic old girl, but the second you bring up the treatment of the Irish, well, that's when shit gets dark.

You don't want to open those wounds. Especially coming from an american. If you were canadian, it might be different. We had plenty of Fenians fighting back against the loyalists.

The Irish are an angry fucking people. It's not that we aren't happy as hell most of the time, but shit like that is still deep and fresh and new.

Shit, my great grandfather had his back broken by anglicans just for asking for a job.

I guess what I'm trying to say is yeah, OP should fucking try it and get his shit kicked in.
