I wish it had been more successful

I actually heard that this weapon was the only sword that out did Katana in terms of cutting and thrusting.

Seriously man, considering that rifle was issued by the Díaz regime I'm glad it wasn't. The place of honor in Mexican weaponry will always be for pictured.
>>65813414
thats not a Winchester or colt revolver tho
>>65810492
katana is a meme sword desu. not too hard to beat. they are pretty thick wich is shit for cutting, the edge is sharp though. and they are horrible for thrusting. its a decent weapon considering the iron available, tamahagane is literally called pig iron in english.
Ours is the graceful Katana.
Does +5 against Lebs

But -5 against Emus

Or ski close to tank and jam this in threads, as is official military doctrine
But KP is best to mow down those russians
>>65813664
I doubt it.
>>65813620
Probably this if you don't count puukkos.
Also RKs (because I will use any excuse to post pictures of my raifu)
>>65813469
The pig iron isn't the problem, it's just very high carbon content steel.
They actually use it on purpose because the folding process burns the carbon (and some impurities) out of the steel so they need to start off with more carbon.
The actual problem is that they didn't have the technology to completely melt the iron so all the impurities that can't be burned off (are already oxidized) will remain in the steel.
Also the fact that they used a thick blade with a very hard blade edge and a soft back instead of a full spring steel blade like the eurpoor swords means that while it's a bit sharper it's also a lot easier to damage
Krag-Jorgensen rifle.
Fun fact: Main rifle used by the US army before they started using the Springfield M1903.
>>65810349
The Welsh Longbow sure was an effective weapon, too bad it was useless against knights.
>>65813745
Having a sharper, more brittle edge isn't really a problem when you're using it against unarmoured targets. The samurai only ever used them for carving up peasants, in actual combat they used spears.
>>65813858
Only for a short while because the side mag is a piece of shit
>>65813745
well yeah you can make decent weapons from pig iron but its much more work than using decent ore.
the thick blade makes it also much worse for cutting despite how sharp it is.
japan was simply behind in military technology at the time (though they had much higher literacy rate etc.).
apparently some japs even used butted mail wich is fucking trash compared to proper riveted mail.
>>65814022
Almost all steel started off as pig iron (in modern times they skip that stage)
It has nothing to do with quality. It was called so because after smelting the iron they poured it in the sand like pic related and they thought it looked like pigglets suckling on a sow hence pig iron (it's actually steel).
>>65810456
underrated
>>65814190
yeah but they actually use the pig iron to make the swords. granted the meme worthy constant folding does make it into steel but its pretty inefficient. also the ore is usually iron sands wich are often rich in impurities.
>>65814443
Pretty much the only problem is that they didn't know how to make blast furnaces that would completely melt the iron which would cause most impurities to float to the surface.
it's funny because China was using them for over a 1000 years

Katana was a popular export goods of Japan because it became legendary in East Asia through Mongol invasions in the 13th century and the Imjin war in the 16th century and lots of imitations were made throughout the region. Koreans, going through the might of Katana that easily outperformed Chinese style straight swords they used in the Imjin war, adopted Katana and learned Japanese sword combat skills as well. Muyejebo, for example, is one of those manuals.

except they didnt. Koreans already used single edged swords during the imjin war. The Chiense style swords that the Koreans used were soon phased out soon after Korea's three kingdom's period. The muyejebo describes incorporation of Japanese swordmanship into the Korean martial arts but not the sword itself.

They were, if any, influenced by Katana carrying Japanese Wakou pirates Koreans had a hard time with for like two centuries. Other than that, they used useless small piece of shit nowhere near practical.

Not really. Katana's shape had already been curvy before Mongol invasions. In fact, Katana was influenced by indigenous Emishi's swords, not Chinese nor Koreans in which Katana-like sword wasn't really a thing before Japanese invasions.

I don't know anything about Emishi but will check out. The earliest reference of hwando/katana-ish sword in the Korean army is recorded in the Annals of Joseon of Chungnyeol reign in the 13th century so it did indeed exist prior to Imjin
