Cologne is pretty cool as well - not much in terms of high-rises, though. And yeah, those tend to be massive! Can't help being a little humbled when standing in front of one.
So far I've only gotten a taste of the West Coast. Nice to hear that a New Yorker can at all be impressed by such a thing.

I think the opposite. Although I enjoy both, I just find prosperous, historic European cities to be more beautiful than anything we could build in north America. Have you seen the cities in europe first hand? The photos do not do it justice. Paris, novi sad, dubrovnik, San Sebastian, and Mostar will always be more beautiful to me.

I like the look of both of them too. But I live in Calgary. I couldnt Imagine the whole city running in buildings only 3-4 stories high without it sprawling more than it already is. I couldnt help but just stare at buildings while I was in Europe just from the beauty.

honestly, most European cities look weird with skyscrapers. They shouldnt have them, unless they plan to make the whole city look North American. Having 2 or 3 ruins the whole landscape and feeling of history and culture

I have both skyscrapers in my city and a few 17th century buildings. The medieval church doesn't fit well in it though

Skyscrapers are pretty neat, but the only places that really have them here are Auckland and wellington and even then its pretty pathetic. I've been to NY and the only things I didn't like about it was the steam coming out from the manholes and blowing onto my face and the number of homeless people. Also there were people unironically standing around handing out their mixtapes which was pretty funny
