first off Germany was fighting in the West, Africa, sometimes the Balkans, and the East, Russia didn't "single handedly" beat shit
They got taken by surprise because they were massing to attack, the soviets before that point were not only numerically superior but technologically superior as well. People overrate German tanks way too much, they couldn't hold a candle to KVs or T-34s until years after the war
They still had huge reserves of forces that were meant to attack Germany to put anywhere vital in case of emergency (notice how im every major battle there's always some "miracle" where an entire Russian division or army shows up out of nowhere to save the day?)
And contrary to popular belief half their high command wasn't purged. A quarter were dismissed (not killed), mostly officers that only knew how to repress and kill their own from the revolution/civil war era and would be no use against Germany. Officer training was well under way for years before 1941, and atandard manpower rotations were going on as normal.

Why do so many people think The USSR was this naive, trusting bloc that were suddenly backstabbed by evil Germany and their invincible panzers, fighting only with potatoes and numbers, winning through sheer persistence? Read a book for once you stupid cunt.

Interestingly enough the Russians had the only amphibious tanks in the world at the time, and had tanks that could drop treads to wheels. Why would they need a tank with wheels to defend Russia, who barely had any paved roads?
