I usually toast an English Muffin instead then fill that with savoury stuff for lunch.

Is it forbidden to not to finish your baguette after you started eating it?

I did this when I was in Africa. The local bakery was owned by one of the few Christians in town, and he also sold beer. So I'd get a baguette, some "riz sauce" in a bowl, and a pack of Brakina beer.
All of this cost me about 3,000 cedi, which is something like $5.
