My parents are phenomenal people but far cry from being saints. They just happened to teach me at a young age how to manage my money and plan for the future. When I turned 16, chance came up to move out with a good friend and I did. Worked while going to high school and by the time I graduated and was ready to go to college, everything was planned before then and I went to college and lived in an apartment on my own dime. You can spout that smart choice living with parents bullshit all you want but it doesn't change that at the age of 16, you are liable for your own consent and at 18, lawfully a self sufficient adult. Being kicked out at 18 isn't something to be poking fun at, it was probably the best choice that persons parents had for their child.

But hey, enjoy living with mama and papa for a few more years, loser.

It definitely exists in Europe too, but it tends to be very rare and mostly cases of people who are hiding. Under normal circumstances we have homecare for people who can't take care of themselves or are in very bad financial and mental shape. When it happens though you can hear about those cases in the news generally.
