A long time ago I used to think that black names like Shaniqua were rare or meme stuff... until I began working at a call center.

I wish I could remember some of those nigger names, jesus christ. I could barely understand some of them as well.

I had to choose an english name so they wouldn't think I was a beaner so I chose Randy and tried to emulate the South Park character and apparently Randy is a common name.

I also find it funny when people here have some super brown indigenous looking kid and name it "Brayan" (Brian) or Kevin. I knew a guy named Kevin Sanchez and everyone called him "gringo" even though he was brown as fuck.

I thought they were trying to get in touch with their African roots or some shit to do with the Black Power movement, so they took names from African Tribes, a lot of which had actual meanings behind them, and a LOT started making up names that sounded African , a. because they didn't know shit about any African culture or tribe names, and b. it was most likely a trendy thing to do in the black community, having names that sounded like they were African and they had meanings behind them, instead of just using white people names that they pretty much had kept and passed down since their slave ancestors had their names changed by the slave masters.
