>he thinks he's going to make it
Statistically, the majority of you won't make it. In all likelihood, you will be one of the ones left behind. Everyone thinks they're special and that their specific vision will make them the exception to the rule, even in this regard you aren't special. Just another crab in the bucket.
Follow the rule of if it would be saved out of a skip. An artwork has a value of its own.

The sad thing is this is probably true. 90% of these users draw anime. It's hopeless.
>>3123456
This painting drives me crazy those colours are phenomenal. How the bodies stand out through a slight outline
>>3123450
This. 90% talent/luck.
>>3123464
Or money.
>>3123468
Connections work as well. Like that "idea man" behind adventure time
>>3123471
Same thing as money, ?
>>3123458

>>3123477

>>3123488

>>3123486

>>3123493
Haha le funney xdd
>>3123501
>another NGMItard
yea that's what I thought
>>3123450
I am ready to dance, are you?
>>3123450
Actually, by being on /ic/ you're much more likely to make it because you'll get bombarded with real advice. If you read the sticky, you're chances go up again.
>>3123512
There's not much point "it means I hope things worked out for you" so that I can be ripped up into pieces for the rest of my life. 4chan can do that anyway.
>>3123512
>I am ready
lmao ya right, post work
>>3123450
>worrying if we'll make it or not when we're just a sliver of humanity in this galaxy that is only temporary
>caring about other peoples opinions on your own art
>>3123450
i have enough spite for this statement that ill never give up, besides, 50th percentile on i/c is 1st percentile amongst normal people so our odds are decent.
>>3123715
Post work faggot
>>3123450
Now I am become Bucket, container of Crabs.
>>3124512
saved, it's missing something though
>>3123450
I know you are trolling but I gonna reply anyway. I'm willing to let the world hit me over and over again. I'm willing to take the hits and keep moving. I won't stop until I get to my goal. I'll make it. Even if you mock me and don't believe in me. And I believe in it, that's all that matters.
OP, stop procrastinating and get to work on your art! And all of you who are reading this thread. I believe in all of you, so keep going!
Call me an optimist, but I think the majority of those who don't make it are among the following:
>People who only see art as a means of expressing fandom (only learning to draw so they can draw their waifu or whatever the fuck)
>People who never seek out education.
>People who reject all criticism.
>People who don't want a career to begin with
If 99% of all artists fail to make it, I think those who make a legitimate effort to improve in an attempt to make a living don't make up very much of that 99%.
>>3123450
>Implying i haven't already sold my artwork for thousands of dollars
>>3124848
Thanks John. Good luck to you as well!
>>3124848
Believing in your dreams won't make them true.
I have made it when I've studied for 5 years and can finally draw what I want how I want.
>>3126462
post work
>>3126391
but working hard at it makes your dreams a possibility
>>3123450
Certainly, but the idea that you should give up altogether and never attempt to better your skills will make you feel so much worse. It's like saying you are not well read, thereby you should not read.
>>3127004
therefore*
>>3126469
I haven't studied 5 years yet unless you want to see my current progress but the answer would still be no.
>>3126482
So?
>>3125024
It's because the anons who shout "NGMI! NGMI!" all around them either fail or refuse to understand that not everyone wants to "make it". Wanting to draw your waifu all pretty is a legitimate goal in itself. I don't want to be a concept artist or the next Rembrandt, I have a normal job and I draw for fun in my spare time.
Statistics not important. Only willpower important.
Most fail because they didn't really want it. If you've ever been to art school, you know why the statistics seem so bleak, BUT, if you really work for it, you can make it.
I did. It took way longer than I expected, but I did it.
>>3127392
>using willpower as an explanation for all the discipline and techniques you built up over years of experience
This is the biggest memeplanation of artists.
>>3127396
What's your excuse then?
>>3127392
post work
>>3127349
So it means that it's worth trying as there's a possibility that you might succeed
There are no guarantees in life, the only thing you can do is try. If that doesn't work, then that's just life.
>>3127004
>Certainly, but the idea that you should give up altogether and never attempt to better your skills will make you feel so much worse.
I dunno, at this point I wanna kill myself when I'm drawing too. I'm so disgusted at my inability to learn and be decent at anything.
>>3127770
>I'm so disgusted at my inability to learn and be decent at anything.
this, I've honestly screamed at my computer with tears of frustration in my eye and on the verge of a panic attack. sometimes it feels like you grind all day for nothing

Other than amount worked is there any real commonalities between people who succeed at grinding? Is it about carefully approaching your weaknesses and maximizing the work you do towards that? About being a quick study and rare genius?
>spent 5 years doing little but drawing
>hundreds of € reading this and that and doing online courses
>art is still shit
>realize talent is real and I don't have it
>30 this year
How do I stop chasing this retarded dream and embrace burger flipping until I off myself?
>>3129236
Don't know. I got my first studio job at 32.
Guess I'm just stubborn.
>>3128296
we will all make it, anons
>>3129238
How well are you doing financially? Were you working side jobs and freelance until then? This board has too few pros to have real questions about the money side of things - are you making it enough to be financially stable or just career-wise doing what you love and suffering for cash?
>>3129243
Oh I know it sucks. That's why I stopped working on it and moved on.
Doesn't matter. I'm good enough to get paid. Most people in animation can't paint at all, so even being moderately good is a distinct advantage. What you have to be is decent at communicating ideas (storyboarding) and designing things (Characters, props, environments, etc.).
>>3129455
I do OK. I'm not rich, but I'm making more money than I did working in retail or at call centers. The biggest problem with art jobs is, work is inconsistent. It comes and goes, so you're always on the lookout for your next gig.
Jobs usually last for a few month; if you're fortunate and they like you, they'll rehire you for the next development cycle.
>>3129243
lmfao embarrassing
>>3123450
1. All images and discussion should pertain to the critique of visual artwork.
Fuck off with your meta shit.
>>3128296
welp I can't even draw furry waifus
how do you learn character consistency?
>>3129925
No idea. It's a constant struggle for most artists.
Personally I hate doing character design work. It's incredibly tedious. I much prefer to stick with storyboards and BG design.
>>3123450
If I get good enough to net ANY kind of profit, that's all that matters.
