Hello artfags,

I'm looking to decorate my dorm and I want more art to get similar to pic related (not necessarily in subject, but in style) that can be hung vertically in large sizes (24x36"). Can't find anything but shit postmodern art and Harry Potter posters online

Any suggestions?
>>
This looks a lot like Bouguereau's work. He's a pretty popular artist so it shouldn't be too difficult to find a print of his.

I like that a lot! Any others similar paintings that come to mind?
>>
>>3122446
no offense but this kind of paintings don't really go well with a dorm, it will make you look pretentious, and the fact that you have to ask /ic/ for suggestions makes it even more apparent
>>
>>3122495
More pretentious than a bunch of splatters or stupid shapes? I would prefer having something like OP image at least is meaningful, skill can be appreciated and you can contemplate it

I'd say yeah. I mean, from your post, from your attitude it's evident that you don't know much about art, its history and such. You probably think Picasso or Kandinsky are "postmodern".

You're correct that I don't know a lot about art history - I'm not claiming to. I love the way these paintings look, though, and I don't think you have to be an artist to appreciate them. They are so different from what I see today as a person totally uninvolved in the art world.

Also it's not really a dorm it's more like a college-owned apartment so it won't look that weird.

>>3122774
Thank you anons posting those paintings, they look great! I like the Dante one especially

I had this hanging in my dorm room, it was a large print, it was about 3 feet tall. I'll post some of the others I had.
>>
>>3123097
BTW, that's Waterhouse.
>>
I had a life size print of this on my closet door, in the dorms. I went to college in LA, and some of us in an art class went on a weekend trip to the getty, where I saw this painting in person, and fell in love with it, and bought a poster at the museum.

"Spring", by Sir Alma Tadema
>>
I had a HUGE poster of this on the wall, I think it was 4 feet wide, by whatever. I'd just become a fan of Maxfield Parrish, and I loved how he painted trees.

Very nice anon(s). Did you have these framed or tacked to the wall?
>>
>>3123127
I spray-glued them to foam board. Couldn't afford framing, I was a college kid, but I had access to cheap foam board, and large cutting tools in the school's studio. Then I used industrial double sided tape to attach them to the walls and the door of the closet.

I frame stuff now, because I can afford it. Those posters would have been expensive, because they're odd sized prints, which means custom framing.
I just looked at the Getty store, this thread made me think of getting another copy of Spring, but they only sell a small version now. Shame.

I see. Thanks for the suggestions

I found two other sets that are nice that are similar in style to the rest of this thread: Course of an Empire and Voyage of Life by Thomas Cole.

the 'artworld' today revolves around paint splatter investor bait and illustration one-off-from-comics work. you'll have to commission someone specific to make something in an outdated style. or you can just find what you like and get it printed to the exact size you want. it's not like you or any of your faggot friends will appreciate an original work anyway.

>the encroaching morbidity of the painting and the duality of knights coming face to face with death
>the centerpiece of the painting is a knight in black armor, looking upon death

I love it so much
