seems like connections are important
>>
Becoming a debt slave just to get a few connections seems like a bad call.
>>
>>3120158
It's not worth it. Most of the people in your class will suck ass and be years behind you, so just don't waste the money
>>
>>3120159
how else are you supposed to make it when the industry is so closed?
>>
>>3120162
Just sleep around.
>>
>>3120162
The internet. Most artists make connections through social media or art sites by getting into contact with other artists of similar skill levels. There are very few meaningful connections to be made at art schools unless it's for animation.

Can't believe I used to believe women had it harder than men
>>
>>3120158
depends what school desu. research is your ally.

and yeah debts not so bad, if you have supportive family. debt is more of a nono 'ha stupid milennial' bogeyman to the destitute and impoverished who are posting on 4chan from public libraries and shit. yes, they exist, and you can probably imagine how bitter they are.

debt's really not that much of a problem. I went to school, 27k in debt, went home to neet. parents paid the monthlies, not a problem at all. if your parents say its ok, they mean it. go to school, let them help you. focus on yourself. you think they had you just to see you struggle?

Well, if you are posting from a public library, then yeah they probably did. ha. go shank somebody on a cargo train for old ramen.

Getting into debt for education isn't too bad if you will come out with a degree that gives you a realistic prospect of paying it back soon. With an art degree though, you aren't any more likely to make a living with it than someone who is self-taught, so you really should think twice before doing it.

this is true, in the end. the point of debt really is so you can pay it back, and the thing youre getting in debt for is supposed to aide you in that.

now that i think about it, making connections is so fucking easy, what with the frequency of cons and classes you can take.

i took some classes at the animation guild in burbank ca. nothing but industry people there, surprisingly. they all were looking to polish their skills.

Basically, come to california.

Debt IS that much of a problem, dummy. Not everyone can go live in their parent's basement. My parents are dead, so I have no safety net, so I'm careful to spend within my means. I've been considering going back to school, to get an MfA, but I like being debt free. I just paid off a car loan, and I love not having that hanging over my head.

Seriously, you just sound like a spoiled suburban brat, who leeches off mommy and daddy.
Your dad: "I'd like to retire, but I can't afford to, because of my worthless son."
>>
>>3120158
Yeah, I wouldnt. Making your initial investment back doing any sort of art would take years, not counting actually living off something.

Get a part time gig, or even a part time art gig (helper/store, etc.) And learn the rest of the time.
>>
>>3120158
Real Answer:

What are your expectations of art school, beyond "contacts"? Most of my contacts were made professionally, most of the people I graduated from never worked in that profession. (Illustration) What industry are you looking to get into? If it's animation, internships are more important than contacts, and getting a reel/portfolio that will get you in the door elsewhere.

Art school is pretty specialized, and these days more of a baby sitting service for neurotic suburban kids. Could a degree from a state school do just as well for you, AND give you a basic bachelor's in education at the same time?

Tell us what your goals are, and we can answer better.
>>
>>3120608
my parents actually are working to own their second house. they dont even tell me to get a job. i am a minimal expense to them and barely on their mind.

been that way since i was a baby. no, im not crying. just the rain.
>>
>>3120624
You're obnoxious. Stand on your own two feet, then lecture people. You have nothing to offer people as a leech.
>>
>>3120630
for the record, you cant really call my first post a lecture. not even satirically.

i was stating what i know. if you have parents you can milk, then do it. conversations in which trade schools and other budgeted alternatives are pushed might not be for some, so i didnt want the op to be confused if he was young and listening to too much mike rowe parroting, which is so common on this site.

debt is a different demon for everyone.
>>
>>3120644
Dude, why are you still trying? Go back to your basement, adults are talking.
>>
>study art instead of something useful
>parents pay bills and debt
Way to become a stunted sad adult

>>
>>3120158
Connections dont mean anything if you aren't good at art. If you want to be a comic book artist as long as you have something good and impressive to show editors you will get job offers. The art industry is very black and white. Amazing artists have it made and unskilled artists have to struggle to get connections and online commissions. Unless you want to make a kids show. Then you're fine since it's usually about how lucky you get with your connections. But artists with real skill don't need as many connections as intermediate artists.

>>
>>3122583
You're talentless and your art is shit, that's why you have to depend on others like a parasite to keep up to the true artists.
