STREET RACING MANGA STYLE
Hey /ic/ I'm from /o/ and needed help with learning how to make cars look like they do drawn in something like Initial-D or Wangan Midnight, some ppl said it looked like they were traced from actual pics of cars then something is done to them in editing to make it look like they're drawn
I'm wanting to get some 80s and 90s shitboxes drawn up to look like something from Initial-D for a short little manga I'm working on and had no idea how to do it
>pic related one of the cars I want to do

you trace car ads, i saw a little thing about it

I think the method is to take a photo and remove color, tweak the settings until it looks like manga. After that they ink, apply some texture and value by hand so that it looks more organic
Asano does it here, starting from 14:00 I think

Thnx for trying to help
If there's anyone else out there that knows how to do this please tell
I figured hand drawing cars would get tedious and time consuming and still would end up missing that initial-D style the way they do cars

you can tell though that that one is a drawing and not traced

Started watching the vid at 14:00 and it looked really cool how they took a live picture and slowly made it look like it was drawn in a manga
The way they talk and the music if the vid is also oddly relaxing and comfy, gonna watch more when I go to my coffee shop and draw

I never looked into Initial D and had no idea how autistic and stupid it looked. Why do you intentionally want to draw like this? The cars don't even look like they are moving.

In some shots they have that feeling but not every page, and if you look at other racing manga like Wangan Midnight or Shakaton boogie, Over Rev they draw them pretty well

In case you're not familiar with Photoshop, here's what he did (based on some notes I wrote when I first watched that episode).
Filter > Sharpen > Unsharp mask
~300 % amount (I've written 344 in my notes, maybe it's 344 in the video? Can't be bothered to look it up.)
~3,5 pixel radius (3,3 in video?)
0 level threshold
Image > Adjustments > Threshold
Play around until you find something that looks alright (IIRC, he uses different settings on different parts of the photo if it's too dark) and ink on top of it to make it look like a real drawing instead of a traced drawing.
Remember to work in 300 dpi (or higher) if you're going to print your comic! If you're inking digitally in Photoshop, buy Lazy Nezumi (if you haven't done it already).
Ganbatte! (or whatever you weeaboos say...)

Are you kidding!?
There's a fuck ton of English translations of initial-D
That's like saying you can't find English translations of DBZ
Initial-D is way too popular in both sides of the world to not have translations m80
Try looking at other manga sites
Also I ended up finding some sort cheap physical copies at a few comic shops, might use them to do a manga bombed fender panel on my next car which will probably be a Prelude/Celica/RSX while I persue my tattooing apprenticeship
