is it possible to draw like shit and still get people to like your art?
pic unrelated
>>3107844
proko should be ashamed
>>3107844
thats a cute little comic. its not trying to be a masterpiece and it works for what it is. he gets too much hate over this
The paneling in this confuses me
>>3107879
>for what it is
it's trash
>>3107879
hi proko
>>3107844
this looks like drawn by dobson
also "humor" fits in dobson
>>3107981
Proko' humor is definitely reddit-tier
>>3107844
FKMT or so people pretend
you ever seen "The Oatmeal", OP?
>>3107981
Dobson is a sexy fuckboy.
ABSO FUCKING LUTELY
just look at tons of successful facebook pages which draw shitty comics. you just have to be #relatable to white girls
>>3107844
Without a doubt. Most people have shit taste.
Now the question is what's the point of trying to get good when mediocrity will still get you popular?
>>3108509
You can't buy food with facebook likes.
>>3107844
pic very unrelated, because he proved how shitty of a writter / designer / artist he is. Basically anything that isn't a carbon copy of a skinless human he has absolutely no understanding of, and it shows.
>>3108600
>also no one likes that comic and everyone thinks its total shit and laughs AT HIM for it.
>>3107879
No, he doesn't get enough hate.
It doesn't work on ANY level.
It's not cute
It's not funny
It's LITERAL dogshit that a fucking first grader could outperform on every level with actual crayons.
The design is shit, the layout is shit, the perspective is shit, the color is shit, the writing is shit, the progression is shit, and you make yourself look like an invalid retard for thinking it deserves any credit or defense.
Post your work faggot.
>>3107844
Yeah look up Shadbase.
>>3107844
this still makes me laugh
>>3107844
Why doesn't Proko just draw porn?
>>3108639
This.
>>3107844
never forget

If you want to work in the realm of realism you're gonna need to reference heavily - not in the sense of "gathering images of things so you understand 'em" like they did in the Renaissance, but literally copying shit from photos because your brain cannot possibly recreate all the intricacies of life from scratch and it's so much faster. Once the Dutch masters started doing it as their go-to process, realist painters and illustrators haven't looked back because it's a much stronger method for what it's designed to do.
OTOH if you draw constructively and you're an average human, your capabilities are going to be severerly limited and you'll either be able to only draw heavily stylized stuff or still have to work hard on reference to obtain lesser results (in the eyes of 95% of people) than artists who just copy. On top of that, your career is going to be limited to animation, comics. and very small niche markets with no entry barriers and insane amounts of competition (good luck pitching your show to Cartoon Network).
Not that there is anything wrong with comics or animation but artists who do these things are dime a dozen. If you take, say, indie comics, actual drawing skills have minimal impact on an artist's reception compared to other things that have nothing to do with art like how well you relate to your audience. Can you relate to teenagers and sell them a character or a story? I sure as hell can't.
>>3107844
how did his wife not leave him after this?
>>3109000
plot twist: she has a fetish for bad art and terrible puns
>>3109025
where can i find roasties like prokos? preferably white tho
>>3108996
Comic book artists and animators have to be far superior draftsmen than fine artists. Also you seem to have things mixed up a bit. There are hardly any job opportunities for artists who can just copy from reference. The entire entertainment industry is built on the back of artists who can draw from imagination and use reference just to enhance their work, they don't rely on it.
>>3108639
Content is more important than artstyle
It's like South Park, people watch that shitty disgusting cut out animation because they like jokes
>>3109067
There's a lot less competition in illustration I think. Sure there are very highly paid artists who draw from imagination but they're the 0.1%
>>3107844
ONE does it
/ic/ has collective autism towards not enjoying content with shitty art. It doesn't matter if the art is shit as long as it delivers the intended message effectively and the story isn't on the same level of braindeadness as the art.
>>3109072
nice meme
>>3111259
>It doesn't matter if the art is shit as long as it delivers the intended message effectively
everyone started believing this and now people wonder why 95% of contemporary art is masturbatory garbage and why art schools today are shit
>>3111225
ONE isn't any worse than most other webcomic artists and the published manga are redrawn by one of the best mangaka in the industry. So clearly, art quality matters for his publisher and the readers, otherwise they would just print his webcomics and not bother having them redrawn.
>>3111403
One has made his own manga, Mob Psycho, wich is well received and got q big anime adaptation that retained his own "style"
>>3107844
ONE and that guy who drew Homestuck got very popular, but it's mostly dependent on luck and being at the right place at the right time. Same with Minecraft or anything that became a fad really
>>3111424
You don't think Minecraft is one of the greatest games ever made? I played it during the beta with friends over a private server and it was incredible. I think the game now is pretty boring and they added lots of pointless stuff but back then it was such an incredible breakthrough.
>>3111622
It certainly is a good game but it got its popularity mostly through youtube and let's plays in particular. Also it's a pretty blatant clone of Infiniminer
>>3111632
>pretty blatant clone of Infiniminer
damn... how did Notch not get sued
