aside from "fun with a pencil" i don't consider loomis for beginners anyway. try Proko and Marshall Vandruff for anatomy and perspective. from there you can advance onto anatomy books like Hogarth and Bridgman (only study them once you know some shit about figure drawing and can name every muscle, otherwise it's a waste of time). and eventually perspective books like scott robertson and videos by Erik Olson.

color/light can be learned with doing value studies and general studies of photos in different lighting. even deviantart stock has useful photos for that, pic related. although artgerm's coloring is pretty stylized so a lot can be learned by just studying how he uses them.
