>draw consistently for years
>still draw like shit
>still can't produce anything of value
this is why so many people kill themselves in art isn't it?
>>3082078
literally post your art to prove you aren't a meme spouting faggot.
>>3082078
I guess so. 4 years and I still haven't made a penny, probably never will.
>>3082078
It depends on a lot of things.
Sometimes they art is incredible but they don't see it that way. Some great artists didn't like their art at all, but everyone else did. Some people just don't like what they do so much, or are very critical of what they do.
>>3082078
Post work fagget, so we can discuss what you need to improve on.
I think artists stagnate because they're aimlessly drawing, they don't have any direction
>>3082109
I'm guessing you haven't tried hard.
I'm at 2 years, definitely shittier than you, and I still managed to get a few bucks on commissions.
Most of /ic/ has an attitude of being unwilling to market themselves because it feels like selling out, under the delusion that some day people will just come to them, but professionals need to be able to advertise their skills.
>>3082109
draw porn then
>>3082078
>some acquaintance learns that I draw
>mentions that he has drawing contest during parties where they draw flowers (non artists)
>realize that I have practically never drawn a flower
art is in my fuckin blood you guys
>>3082078
too many people here focus on their skill as an artist. the easiest way to make money is
to draw porn or pander to psuedointelectuals.
draw something shit, give it a (((deep))) meaning, and then sell it off as modern or
abstract art.
you guys all get caught up on being a good artist, which is a noble aspiration, but that
does not make money. slap some shit on a four foot canvas and auction it off.
>>3082681
I just want to draw comics that feel like Dark Souls...
>>3082685
Drawing thousands of boxes and circles won't help you on drawing the human body.
If you don't start now, you will never get better.
>>3082712
What...? I almost never draw ellipses for practice. I draw figures and architecture.
>>3082719
I was simply saying that if you don't start drawing those comics now, you won't get better at doing comics.
Unless of course, that you are already making DS comics?
>>3082722
Dark fantasy, not DS. And yeah I'm doing it but lately I've been walking a tight rope economically, hence the breakdown
>>3082737
Like this? Or more Stylized?
>>3082743
More stylized ofc, fully rendered comics would be ridiculous, but you've nailed one of my favorite artists of all time and probably the one that made me pick up a pencil in the first place. I love Brom so much.
>>3082746
You said, "Dark Fantasy", and I could hardly think of a artist more apt, honestly.
I want to get Brom's book and Paul Bonner's as well.
Any other artist names you would like to share?
>>3082078
Want to learn? Want to improve?
1. Get out of your comfort zone, retard.
2. Correct your mistakes, faggot.
>>3082750
Rk Post, Oscar Chichoni, Wylie Beckert, Juan Gimenez, Timofey Stepanov who's really young, then there's a whole bunch of Polish guys who worked on The Witcher (on ArtStation), Marta Detlaff off the top of my head. Good old Beksinski too...
>>3082078
Drawing is irrelevant if you don't study fundamentals, it's really that simple.
>>3082109
this shows plenty of technical skill but very little effort.
put 5+ hours polishing a good piece and people will be lining up to throw money at you.
>>3082109
THIS NIGGA MADE A WHOLE NEW THREAD TO COMPLAIN. AGAIN.
Ban this crybaby
>>3083220
What the heck no, I didn't start any thread I never do. I just replied there.
>>3083508
I didn't say you made the thread. I just said you complainined on that thread and made a whole new thread to complain.
I was joking about that ban.
>>3083511
Aight, but I didn't even open this one. I don't usually rant in here, I mostly lurk.
>>3082078
Everytime I try to draw something related to human anatomy I just instantly rip out the page as soon as a single fucking thing goes wrong. This is why I'll never make it.
I just wish I knew how to remedy this.
>>3083651
grow up.
or care less.
>>3083660
I don't understand ho. As soon as something goes wrong why continue when it's already shit?
>>3083671
Do you always quit when things go wrong in life anon? Surprised you're still alive.
>>3083673
I am too.
I was never taught to deal with failure properly.
Trial and error is a process I have had no experience with thus far and the word " practice" sends my into a fit of rage.
Honestly, I don't think I'm cut out for life.
>>3083699
One thing that helped me is forcing myself to take one step further with the next drawing. Say, before I start, I say I'll color this next sketch no matter what, and even if it's just a head or figure sketch I manage to sneak in a bit of color.
If you keep doing it you can get into the habit and live with imperfect pencil sketches. What I do is still mostly pencil but this exercise keeps me in shape with watercolor
>>3083671
if you let your perfectionism get in your way you will neither enjoy yourself, nor make fast progress
art is all about failing and figuring out why
don't try to draw one perfect figure, draw a hundred imperfect ones and i can assure you your one-hundred-and-oneth drawing will be better than your first one with spending a fraction of the time
there are also books you can work through, if you want to get good at figure drawing. loomis is not a meme.
>>3083775
Anything Loomis related in particular I should start with?
>>3083775
>don't try to draw one perfect figure, draw a hundred imperfect ones and i can assure you your one-hundred-and-oneth drawing will be better than your first one with spending a fraction of the time
post your work
You shouldn't be advising someone when you're garbage yourself
>>3083775
your analogy is shit
If you fry an egg without oil 100 times it'll turn out to be shit. If you decide to use oil on the 101th egg your egg will be better than the previous 100 where you decided not to be stupid. Better, but nowhere chef quality.
To get a chef quality omelet you take your time to dice the ingredients. And quickly but efficiently make the omelet without skipping the oil. Then you realize the *process* can be done a lot quicker by practicing your dicing technique, rather than making omelets as a whole for the sake of 100 finished omelets for 100 guests who aren't at your restaurant.
>>3083914
i think if you have a Teflon pan then you don\t need oil and it may even taste better depending on the egg and the oil
>>3082078
I have the opposite problem. I can draw well but have very little will or impetus to do it, despite friends constantly urging me on. It sucks worse than having to try hard.
>>3083914
unlike your egg bullshit, it was not an analogy, you dumb fuck. if you draw somthing a hundred times while
>failing and figuring out why
you will be making process. if you can't get that into your head have fun wasting hours on a work and then throwing a fit because it didn't turn out like you wanted
you can still get better >>3083651 but you have to stop making excuses.
you can find all the resources you need to start learning on /ic/, so either stop drawing or stop bitching
>>3083900
i actually worked through hampton's book 'design and invention', since i found loomis too wordy.
loomis book on drawing the hands and head came in really handy though
>>3083908
>post your work
>shouldn't be advising someone when you're garbage yourself
how is that even relevant?
i'm still garbage, but i'm way less garbage then i was when i started figure drawing half a year ago. pic attatched
>>3084230
>that model from NMA
I could recognize that ass anywhere
>>3084241
haha same, best model
>>3082078
>consistently
There's your problem. You can't just draw over and over, you'll stay at the same level with marginal improvement. You need to be studying. Pushing the boundary of your skill constantly.
>>3082078
You're not alone OP. I failed too
>>3082078
>draw consistently for years
>still draw like shit
>decided to keep drawing as a hobby and find a job
>bump into a dude looking for artist
>show him my shitscribbles
>now working part-time as a designer and colorist for a comic
>one of the artists is even considering taking me as an apprentice
>boss tells me that I'll be working with a qt girl on her comic soon
Quit being such a fucking autist, start talking with other artist IRL, and show them your shitscribbles. If it's shit they'll tell you how to make it less shitty. If it's not, you'll have someone with connections who might help you out. You've got noting to lose and everything to gain bucko.
>>3085761
Where do I meet these artists that'll help me out?
>>3085777
That disgusting place called outside. *shivers*
>>3085782
I'm standing outside my apartment, now who do I talk to?
>>3085786
The fuck, nigga you act like I go outside and talk to people. You're on your own after this. You shouldn't have left your home. You're a normie now.
>>3085794
Wait anon, you're the one who told me to leave my house and meet artists. Don't go, there's an Asian man walking toward me with a pamphlet. Anon? Anon?!
>>3085800
CHASE HIM DOWN. QUICK BEFORE HE GETS AWAY!
>>3085800
Run! He might offer you a job that involves talking to people!
>>3085794
this, fucking normies out and never come back
>>3084241
link please
The best thing I ever fucking did for my art was put down the pencil and get a job in customer service.
I learned all that I could about anatomy and composition 'rules' from /ic/ and books, but after working with and watching hundreds of people every day for six months, I finally came back to art and found that my eye for form was 100x better.
You can't learn how people actually move and feel from a fuckin' book, anons. Get to it.
