Depends on what kind of art.

clearly he means people who do it professionally.

only the artists with low IQs are making minimum wage

Yes and no:

TIER ONE : CRAFT FAIR DADDIES
aka old people making jewelry
pros: The average person thinks this is artists
cons: kitsch taste, never truly respected as history will tell you

TIER TWO : 2DEEP4U MUH MODERN ART DEGREE
aka literally cans of shit
people who are as good artists as anything else, your average white kid who racks disciprine and thinks art is an easy path so fuck it
Pros: Innovative, would probably help you push your shit better than anyone else = good manager
Cons: Lack of self-reflection, one track mind = success! useful in probably every field that is objective, but not art.

TIER THREE: FREELANCERS AKA PORN/CONCEPT
aka most of /ic/ but way too easily butthurt
good taste but can't afford the time to do the shit they actually want to do
Pros: most technically skilled in terms of 2D. Execution & time rate is highest.
Cons: Well rendered furry anuses. These niggas gotta get paid and 99% of the time their clientele don't share their enthusiasm for bouguereau.

TIER FOUR: ART SCHOOL STUDENTS
special snowflakes with lack of real world experience; naive juvenile angst yadda yadda make their own threads on /ic/
Pros: Ego. Solid as fuck, the confidence to execute a concept. Don't get jelly easy and as a result highest regarded taste (their own)
Cons: too middle class to craft their own materials and too sheltered to be freelancers. Most easily scammed out of their parents money.

TIER FIVE : CHILDREN
enthusiasm combined with lack of fear of failure
Pros: Prodigies can cultivated early on, and have that special talent that keeps them going.
Cons: Child star phenomenon. It's cute when you paint like an 18 year old at 5 but not when you are 18.

TIER SIX: URBAN
The most real niggas who tag shit dont need no fame; most analogous to rappers who don't sell out and stay underground.
Pros: The most "stupendous" can execute something impressive by working with less materials than the rest.
Cons: Nobody knows who they fuck they are.

>>3071381
depends on how autistic you want to be with it.

>>3071386
no, it's just that nobody cares about hobbyists.

Nice you just described me

guys come on, this has to be the most obvious bait I've seen here just, sage it...

You live in a very, very sheltered bubble if you think any of this is true. That you think neckbeards cranking out dirty pictures is a significant art market says to me you don't have the first fucking clue as to what you're talking about.

Not necessarily because that ignores people who are extremely intelligent without any marketable skills. I have a couple of friends who did english/linguistic type stuff in Oxford and they're by far the smartest and most insightful people I know, but they're working jobs that don't require qualifications.
>>
>>3071399
No, those are the ones who need a pretty high IQ generally to get good enough to make a living with their art. The low IQ ones have to work minimum wage jobs on the side to survive.
>>
>>3071381
i wouldn't say iq was the most important thing about art, it's not like you have to be correct to do art, you just need to make nice things

i do think though that working is cancer for art, and you should be poor instead if you have the choice.

but on the other hand /ic/ isn't really for art, just drawing, probably if you just want to be good at drawing you should live the usual life and having drawing as your passion. that's probably the path which will give you the most personal fulfillment, especially as you get older and the ephemeral makes way for the material.

Being an artist is building a brand for yourself. The work you do is indicative to who you choose to be. Artists become businessmen representing themselves.

In contrast to being a cog to a large business, whose menial work is an excuse to wake up the next morning at 6am wondering why he/she is not climbing the ladder fast enough. You feel your work has meaning, yet literally anyone with a decent education and understanding of number crunching, analytics, and research can take your place.

No one can take your place as an artist. Each one comes with something radically different than the next. Sure you can hire another concept artist, technical 3d artist, business presence designer, storyboard artist, book cover illustrator. But each person brings something different to the table.

Any adult can solve 2+2 and have the result be the same every time.
There will never be a case that two artists come up with the same solution. No two people have the same exact experiences and thus each view is slightly skewed in a different directions.

Professional Freelance Artists know how to sell themselves, have plenty of creative solutions to problems, can manage money, cost, pricing, understand (personal) business intricacies, understands team/hardwork, can take critique well, good work ethic, understand design aesthetics, can draw and design fresh ideas that develop interest, can talk and engage with clients.

The list goes on. Let me describe the responsibilities for an Accountant: compile and analyze account information, document account information, and recommend financial strategies.

That's a stark difference. To me at least
>>
You'd have to be retarded to get into art unless you REALLY love it. Even hobbyists probably hate it because you'll constantly get kicked in the nuts with criticism. Most people can't handle it and quit, while others grind fundies til they hate drawing.

>When you're a teen who learned about IQ today and recieved a high score.

Congrats on your score by the way. Be sure to mention your high IQ several times in conversations.

Did you post your score on facebook after taking it? I did.
>>
Only high IQ and experienced people can become GOOD artists.
>>
>>3071381
Probably?
>engineer cousin taught me math (now professor cousin)
>did university level math in high school
>found conceptart.org
>dropped shit, left to art school
>4 years later found job
>7 years later still work as a designer, making more than most
>>
any form of great art requires very high iq
>>
how rapidly does IQ decline over time (assuming a healthy lifestyle)?
I don't know what my IQ would have peaked at, but I scored 117 at age 29, and I'm 31 now

DISAGREE.

Good artists drw what they understand. If you're smart & understand how things work faster than the average joe (light,perspective,colors,anatomy,etc...) you're more likely to have beautiful art than nyone else!
