There's your problem. Don't take contracts from 16 year olds, and you won't get paid chump change.
Any decent contractor (e.g. a legitimate company) will easily shell out a couple hundred, if not thousand, bucks for an illustration or whatever.

People don't understand the amount of work that goes into a professional illustration.
