Beginner here, what do you think the "skill" difference between these two artists are.
Do you think the artist who drew the first picture is far more skilled than the 2nd, or do they just have different styles?
Do you think the guy who drew the 2nd picture has the fundamental knowledge to draw the 1st?
>>3051985
>>3051986
Fellow beginner wondering too. I think both could be possible:
1) An artist who'd always drawn simpler, but can't recreate the second piece.
2) An artist who is very good, and just developed a style.
#2 is the best way to go about it

How do you make a living drawing like this nowadays?
It must be rather infuriating, seeing furry/hentai shit garner 5k a month on patreon while I'd imagine this kind of stuff would make you a few hundred if you were lucky(although being a famous artist would make you more of course)

Though inspiration comes from variety of ideas, so 3-4 pics of similar style / subject matter are a bit unnecessary.

that's the point.jpg
Is Japanese woodblock prints and paintings literally the only thing that inspires you?
>>3052043
>you are not living your life correctly
>>3052010
that's what conflicts me too as a beginner. i want to eventually make _some_ sort of money from art, though the type of stuff you quoted is what i like drawing, that and pretty landscapes, kind of scifi stuff. I've never been interested in animu or furries.
I guess i'll just continue with a normie job and try to make it at the side, won't stress about it though. If the only way for me to make money as an artist is through drawing shit i hate, then that's no difference between working a typical wage slave job
>>3052045
That's completely besides the point and not what I said at all. I see you're both arrogant and lack reading comprehension
>>3052043
I posted some other stuff too, but I just happen to mostly have those prints and paintings on my computer. They are a huge inspiration for me, I really like the simplicity of them, and the fact that they are often focused on nature, or landscape in general.
>>3052049
I am arrogant true, but if I lack reading comprehension I would need explained what you actually meant
Francisco Toledo
>>3052047
That's what lots of artists do, you see great artists doing furry/anime shit on commission and you can tell they aren't into it
Probably do serious stuff on the side as a hobby
>>3051986
You have to realise that one is a painting and one is a woodblock print.
One is made to be reproduced a lot and the other isn't, they require entirely different techniques and I think you can't quite compare them like you are trying to do.
>>3052047
that's only if you plan to "make it" through commission work
you get to do cool scifi stuff by working in, say, a game studio

Drawing the stuff you hate for cash is still better than a wageslave job, 'cause you can grab some mileage along the way and your drawing muscles don't get stiff.
>>3052148
Wouldn't you get burned out? I used to love programming and started hating it when I had to spend 9 hours a day at work programming bullshit, I didn't even want to do it when I got home
>>3052205
If I drew furry shota porn every day it would mess me up, true, that's why you have to find balance.
When you think of it, everything you draw is just a bunch of boxes and cylinders. If you think of drawing a furry dick as practicing how to render glossy surfaces (which it is), it doesn't matter that much what it is you're drawing.
The right composition of two orcs fighting could be the right composition of two furries fucking, there's little difference in the process.
It's up to you, both options have their ups and downs, but drawing for living is still work, you won't always get payed to draw what you want.

no, no its not. you are literally working with the medium of inspiration, you could make anything your imagination can let you. there are no limits here, but you say its impossible? you could be the next master of your craft, but you bog yourself down with probability like that matters at all. go draw, and stop complaining.
>>3052148

A lot of Bierstadt's grand landscapes were done on huge canvases. This one is 305×183 cm. I think the contrast and high resolution are what allows for very sharp detail.

very rarely though, feng zhu has talked in depth about what you actually do in the concept art industry, you might want to listen to what hes got to say as it seems like you dont really have a notion on what these guys do most of the time.
