I'm studying to be an optometrist for comfy 9-5 and good pay while drawing on the side but I'm letting myself get cucked out of my dreams by the workload and being a shitter desu.

Art is my full-time job. I make money off freelance gigs with publishers and convention commissions

I have a sugardaddy that pays my rent + painting materials and bought me a cintiq.

I'm a historian but still studying more.
I also work as a slaughterer and general farmhand on most weekends and summers.
(Probably because my art is barely good enough to convince them I can actually draw)

I have a big boy job, I make big boy bucks. I would never make art as my main form of income. It just doesn't seem prudent since there are no benefits, no health insurance, no dental, no stable income to get a mortgage, and I would have to whore myself out drawing what someone asks me too instead of drawing what I want.

I work in an animation studio. Problem is, studio jobs come and go, so you find yourself between jobs pretty often.

we are moving to the suburbs and ill probably find a job in a local store or something. as for my skill in art, it did increase but still very far from being worth real world money

My dad are wealthy, the 700$ they give me every months is not a burden to them. On my part, I don't feel guilty, yet I recognize the duties that are implied in financial freedom. For the past 4 years I have mostly spent my days studying everything I could find that is related to drawing and painting, while also following related courses in fine arts academy (it's free in my country) and while taking lessons from 2 artists I trust deeply.
I'm ready to leech on my parents until I'll fullfil my ambitions.

It's not that easy. It takes time and a lot of effort. Lots of drawing stuff you really, really don't have any interest in. Also, most people get stuck doing only commissions and don't realize that's the worst way to make money

i work graveyards as an operator for an alarm monitoring/security company. its quiet enough to draw during the downtime (which totals to about 6 hours in an 8 hour shift) and weekends are dead enough to draw porn at my desk if i wanna. going to eventually move on from this kind of life, but right now is not a good time due to health issues/surgeries

Did you specifically go out and look for a job that you could draw during like this or did you just get lucky? I hear a lot of people say they work a slow job with a lot of downtime and I don't even know how to go about finding one of those (I've primarily worked in restaurants and maintenance type jobs).

I'm in the same boat, my hubby just makes enough to support the both of us and is fine with me keeping the house and engaging in art/self improvement. He actually brags about having a more "traditional" marriage so he wouldn't mind that kind of language either, heh.

I sort of fell into selling commissions after being unemployed for 3 fucking years. And later when I finally did get a "real job" at walmart, I went back to commissions so my family wouldn't count my money.
